Canvas Years ago, I saw a Photo on canvas that was done very uniquely. The Photo was printed on canvas than wrapped, then brush-stroked with some kind of clear acrylic medium. The result was very similar to a real oil painting...it even had a similar texture. Does anyone know what this technique is called or where I can get it done?

A real oil painting is probably cheaper. And genuine instead of fake.

Hi Holly, Once-upon-a-time, before color printing became affordable, black & white prints were made on double weight papers. The paper uses was available in scores of different textures like “canvas” “silk” and “tapestry”. After printing and processing we “tinted” them with transparent oils (oil paint used by artists). For special clients we over-coated with heavy oils, the results resembled oil paintings. Some shops and individual artist continue with these services. Also Holly, Companies such as Olan Mills (who actully started 75 yrs ago specialized in these) they are as discribed: OLD MASTERS (CANVAS ONLY)- Moments are made to last with this completely hand crafted portrait destined to become a family heirloom. This unique canvas-mounted portrait is hand crafted by artists proficient in exquisite forms of photographic art. These heirloom portraits are further enhanced with special highlighting, unique brush stroke techniques and superb artistry. The final preservation process includes a lacquer spray, which serves to seal the portrait and protect it for future generations. This is the "Oil Painting" look Olan Mills is known for.
Done with heat pressing the portrait and doing a hand cover lauqering. I hope this helps,

Imo, it's like an artificial Christmas tree with spray-on pine scent.

Debby, Thank you, I think that is what I'm looking for. I checked Olan Mills website, and I believe that you can only purchase it from their photo sessions. I have an image from a wedding that I want to have done. Do you know if Olan Mills do this for general public?
