GPS Do you know of a GPS adaptor that hooks up to the camera to imbed the coordinates into the photo file? I know Nikon has this, but am looking for a universal unit as I have Canon equipment. I recall reading about this awhile ago, but cannot find the article. Thanks,

I don't know of any that attach to the camera, but the ATP PhotoFinder will geotag images on an SD or CF card after you take them... however, you must first remove the card from the camera & put it in the unit to do so. Sounds like too much hassle to me! Info: dvc

Well, it's a lot better than having to stick some thingamejig in your hotshoe WHILE you're using your camera (like on trips...). What if you need to fill-flash...? Or use a bubble level? Or a remote Commander?

Thanks David and WS for your replies. I checked it out. It is alot cheaper than a Garmin Nuvi portable 760 GPS. And it imbeds it in the files which is what I want. . . that way I won't lose the info. I have just come back from a trip to remote areas in the SW and I know that I could never find those places again :( Next time I want to be prepared!

Photofinder is Windows only. For MacOSX there's a couple interesting FREEwares at: http://tinyurl.com/59hbl3 Check them for what hardware they work with, then shop around.

Geotagging sounds intriguing. Because a device like this writes on the memory card independent of camera, it even works for inexpensive P&S cameras.

The di-GPS Pro works with Nikons. It is US $ 268. http://www.di-gps.com/di-GPS/pro_1.htm My sister's got one on her D200 BUT.... it occupies your hotshoe WHILE you're photographing! So, what if you need to fill-flash...? Or use a bubble level? Or a remote Commander? Etc. etc.... Photofinder seems much more convenient as you only need to carry the device somewhere on your person or in your camera bag. It does NOT need to be connected to your cam all the time! Because why would the device need to write the GPS coordinates to the image's EXIF at the very same instant that that image is exposed? That, imo, would make sense only for a war photographer who has an open upload connection (via satellite?) to whisk his/her photos to his/her editor, back at the ranch, at the very instant that they are being shot. Somehow I think there are VERY few photographers like that.
