Help. Problem in PHotoshop Elements with Fill Colo Please bear with me. I'm not sure how to describe the problem. I was experimenting with Photoshop Element 5.0, and think I hit a wrong button. I'm trying to do a burned=in edge effect, such as vignetting. Here's the problem. I open the original photo, go to layers and add a new layer by pressing "Create a New Layer. THen press D to set Foreground to black. Then press Alt/Backspace to fill new layer with black. SO far, so good. I get black screen. Then,, I press M to get marquee tool, and select menu to feather. Still good. Now, I press backspace to knock hole in black screen. Here's the problem. I get black where marquee rectangle is -- surrounded by RED. I can't get rid of the red framing. The screen should be total black. Help. What did I do wrong. Please, help me get a total black screen. Much appreciated. I have Photoshop ELements 5.0.

Is your background color red? Does the back space key invert the marquee?

Gregory -- Thanks for responding. No, my background color is black. And yes, when I hit backspace, the marquee rectangle appears. I just don't know where the red framing is coming from.

Gregory -- Problem solved. This morning, I went on selection tool, and reset all tools to the default. The black is back. Yeah. Thanks for your help.

You're activating the quick mask mode. Maybe the keys are changed with elements. Or if you have a mac. If you go back to standard mode from the red frame, you can ctrl-x and cut out the middle. If that's not working on yours, you can always use a layer mask, or invert the marquee and cut out the middle.

Thanks, Gregory. I'm on a steep learning curve with Elements, so this is very helpful. Thanks again. Much appreciated.
