shooting casual shots outdoor

I am looking at shooting casual outdoor pictures and I am using Sony A-700 camera.I only have a built in flash.I worked with film prior to getting the digital camera and have some nice images.I am not into the techinical aspects with digital(still learning about digital.I will be shooting outdoors at a creek and local park.I know it is best to shoot early morning or late afternoon as well on overcast days to get the best shots.Since I am using digital now what advice can one give me as to how I can make this work without flaw? I normally like to work with manual settings, any advice here working with digital? Also I am doing this to try to get myself started and known in my area. For a photo session my instructor advised me to charge roughly 100.00 and then 25.00 for per print. What about package prices as well?Any help here would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tammy
