Vivitar 2800

I have a Vivitar 2800 flash unit for my OM10, can I use this flash on my Cannon T70?

  Terry,
If it worked with your OM-10, you shouldn't have any problem using it with the T70. The Vivitar 2800 is an Auto flash, but it must use its own sensor. In other words, your T70 cannot control the flash output. The flash must control itself, just as you used it with the OM-10.

Here's how to set up the T70:
(1) Set the T70 to "manual" exposure control.
(2) Set shutter speed to the X-Sync speed (1/90th second or slower).

The rest is the same as how you used it with your OM-10:
(3) Set the the film speed you are using on the flash's back panel.
(4)Pick which of the two apertures you want to use (red or blue).
(5) Set the mode switch on the side of the flash accordingly (to the red or the blue).
(6) Set your lens aperture to the one you picked on the back of the flash.

Put the flash into the camera hot shoe before turning it on, and turn it off before removing it from the camera hot shoe!!!

If you don't have the instruction sheet for the Vivitar 2800, you can download a PDF of it here:

If you need an instruction book for your T70, you will have to contact Canon directly. In the USA the telephone number is here:
