Photographing bears Hi there is a bear attracted to a metal can near our house. There is nothing in it. I'm trying to take a picture of it thru a dirty window at night. Hes a pretty good size one. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.

Call the Rangers to catch it professionally and release it 300 miles upstream? Unless it has cubs, of course.

Open the window, it's not you it's after. Sit in a car? Go outside?

Hi, another quick question. I saw some footprints in the driveway. What equipment and how do I photograph bear footprints in the driveway. I used my slr and some pics I used the closeup setting. One print wasn a little better than the others. Again thanks for any tips.

Light, Jessica, light! Photo graphing is light writing. The later in the afternoon, the better. As long as the sun is still shining on the pawprint. Crouch so that the camera is below 2 feet, aim at the pawprint, make it fill the middle of your frame, not all of it, leave a lot of room on all sides, and, most importantly: have your shoulder to the sun! That way the shadows from the pawprint may be max visible to the lens. Do not use flash!
