Photography Question

tripods

I have a Nikon D70s with a nikkor-micro 105mm f/2.8G lens. What would be a good tripod that will lower to the ground for macro work? My present tripod is great but has a center column and only lowers to about 12".

I have been told that my tripod is not a pro tripod, but it has worked extremely well form, so I have seen no reason to replace it. I have a Velbon Victory 150 that has outlived three cameras. It has supported a Minolta X700 with a 400mm Lentar lens and 2x multiplier, along with a Minolta MD-1 motor drive. Though the center post does not have a hand crank to raise it, it can be inverted so you can get your camera about five inches from the ground. I really like it.

Have fun and keep shooting,
Mark H.

  Hi Marilou,
Many tripods allow the center column to be reversed for macro work. This way you can get very close to the ground with a standard tripod. I have a Gitzo and several other tripods, use the Gitzo most.
Thanks, John Siskin
