Getting an 11x14 I have a digital image that I need to be printed at 11x14, I submitted the picture to be printed and it will cut half of the picture off. What dimensions would I need to resize this picture to get the whole picture printed? I have Photoshop CS2, Photoshop Elements, Corel, and Microsoft digital imaging, so if anyone knows how to do it in any of these programs could you please let me know! Thank you!

Heather, your camera is producing an image in a 3:2 ratio; that is, 4x x6, 8 x 12, 12 x 18, etc. In order to get an 11 x 14, you must crop to that size in you photo editing software. Otherwise, the print service will uatomatically make the crop decision for you with poor results. To crop a 3:2 to an 11 x 14, something has to go, so you make the decision. In CS2 or Elements, you can enter the dimensions after you select the crop tool. John

Like John says, Heather: you can't fit a round peg into a square hole. Something's got to give. Have fun!

BTW, John, most digital cameras don't produce 3:2 image, but 4:3 images. The principles stay the same, though.

WS, beg to differ on the aspect ratios. While some DSLRs offer choices of 4:3 and 16:9 in addition to 3:2, nearly all produce 3:2. John

Had to learn this the hard way myself. One thing to alway be conscious of when out shooting(especially portraits). Leave room for cropping at various sizes

It's the way you look at it, John. You do from a dSLR perspective. But the number of dSLRs out there is totally dwarfed by the number of compacts. Which are (for all intents and purposes) all 4:3. So even on aggregate the vast majority of photo camera sensors out there is 4:3.

WS, I was addressing the original question from Heather (Canon xti), and I was speaking of DSLRs in general--3:2. I take your point (and shoot) on compacts. John
