Photography Question

How do I get my Pentax flash unit to work?

I've got a Pentax K10D with an AF-540FGZ flash unit...I've read my manuals, but this thing won't fire. Its getting juice, I can light up the LCD on the flash unit, but even in total darkness, it won't fire; never mind outside in daylight. Is there a setting I need to set on the camera that I don't know about? Please help, or please guide me elsewhere! I've tried everthing I can think of...

  Going through my checklist:
I would first check that the contacts in the camera hotshoe and flash foot are clean. Have the flash powered off when sliding it into the hotshoe so that the communication doesn't get confused by mismatched contacts sliding across each other. Make sure it is fully and firmly seated then turn the flash on. Note that the power switch has 2 on positions, the first is for wireless, the 2nd for normal operation. If the power switch is set for wireless, then the flash won't fire unless it displays MASTER in the upper left of the LCD. Use the M/C/S button to cycle between MASTER, CONTROL, and SLAVE settings.

Also check that the flash is set for P-TTL or Auto. I don't think it'll work properly with the K10D if it's set for TTL.
