Erasing an object

I have PS Elements 6.0 trial. I am trying to figure out how to erase something in a photo I don't want in there. I clicked the eraser & then clicked the object I want erased. Now I'm stuck. I can't figure out how to get it gone now. All the help info I've read only tells you how to do it as far as I've got. Thanks!!

Click the eraser once, click the object, hold the mouse depressed and move it around. The object should disappear.
You'll be left with a nasty white blotch, though...

Use the cloning tool, Cheryl, not the eraser tool! Click on a part of the photo that you want to cover up with another part of the picture.

You should use the stamp tool and the clone tool. You will get a more natural looking clean up that way.
