Focus Points

My question is this: does auto focus override focus points?

When I set up, I often push the shutter button half way down. Then, I hit the focus points and select the one I want.

When I upload photos to the computer, and select "show focus points," sometimes they're highlighted, and sometimes they're not. Does that mean I'm overriding focal points at times?

This often happens too when I'm using a tripod and cable release.

Please help. What am I doing wrong.

Many thanks in advance.

Mary Beth

Alan, thanks for the link to the owner's manual. I have a paper copy that's all beat up, but now have this site bookmarked. It's probably time I go back and re-read the manual...lots of good info in there!
