Photography Question

lighting

I took some photo's for a christening in a church and had some problems with the lighting. Churches are quite dark. How do I make sure that my photo's don't come out too dark? I seem to have some difficulties with taking photo's where the lights are low...

Thanks

That's a very broad question. Did you use flash? A tripod? What ISO film? By dark do you mean everything or just the background? How do you meter? What kind of camera are you using?

I have a minolta dynax 505 si... I did use a flash but no tripod... and by dark I mean like when a person dims a light in a room, not just the background... I can't remember what meter I used.... any suggestions... I would be most grateful...

I'm not familiar with that camera so I can only assume you used a built in flash. If that's the case then you have to realize that built in flashes are not very powerful. If your subject is beyond 10 feet away you will probably have trouble getting enough light on it. You still didn't mention what ISO you were shooting at so all I can suggest is increase your ISO.

Thanks... I think that might have been the problem... I'll keep your advise in mind the next time I have to take photo's in a similar situation...
