A manual Lense on an automatic camera? My sister has a Nikon autofocus f55 SLR (35mm)and I have a Nikon 200mm f/4 telephoto manual lens.. can this lense be fitted to her camera with an adaptor? If so where can I get such a filter and what should I be looking for exactly?? Thanks a million from a novice!!

I believe with Nikon you don't need an adaptor.

sorry maybe I wasnt very clear, the lense indeed "fits" but I found that the camera didnt seem to work?? unless im doing something wrong!! thx

Nikon F55 requires a lens that communicates electronically, ie. a "CPU" series lens. If the 200 f/4 does not have any electrical contacts in its mount, it is non-CPU. The F55 will work with it only in M exposure mode. The F55's exposure meter cannot be used with a non-CPU lens. The LCD will display "F--", the aperture is set with the ring on the lens. If it is a CPU lens, its aperture ring must be set to the minimum aperture setting (largest f-number). The F55 will set the aperture automatically in P and S modes, the user selects the desired aperture with the camera's Command Dial in A and M modes. See pp. 18-19 and 88-90 of the F55 manual.
