Hi Tareq, it varies! There is no single answer to your question. What the best way is depends on 1) the size of your wallet, 2) the effect you want to achieve, 3) your skill with Photoshop. Have fun!

gels take a lot less room in your bag than a bunch of backgrounds. Maybe get some gels and "cookies". If you don't know what those are, head to the strobist site and watch the video: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101.html Photoshop is too time consuming unless you're only doing one or two photos. And if your lighting and comp isn't right, it can be a pain as well!!!

Hi W.Smith, Your answer making me to think of m question again, so let's say the budget is not that much but maybe enough for decent one, the effect is nothing more than I want to have different colors of backgrounds and not just stuck with only 3 colors that all I have [White, Black, and Gray], and my skill in photoshop is not that good enough yet.

Hi Debby, Seems you cover everything about studio lighting in your threads, so if that is true then I will give it a time to read them all, but seems I will take loooong time to read them all or most, but I promise that I will read them as much as I can.

One neutral light grey background and a selection of coloured gels gets you a variety of pastel tinted backgrounds. Even, featureless lighting is not a function of colour, but of sufficient power, placement, and distribution of light (sources).

Thank you very much again W.Smith. Still I can't figure out how to do it, because I may end up with overexposed or say blown out shots than a highkey.

Yes, and you may end up with underexposed shots just as easily. So what? Adjust and expose again. And again. And again. Until you got what you want. Get crackin' instead of trying to think of all manner of stuff that could go wrong. If the sky falls you'll have a blue hat. Just DO IT!

thanks W.Smith, I have powerful lights and it is not so difficult to expose the model or the background ogr anything.
