  Hi Annisa,

The Canon PowerShot series are sold factory equipped with a non-interchangeable zoom lens. A zoom lens provides the user with the ability to change the working focal length of the camera. You can manually select a wide angle view and then smoothly zoom thru normal to a telephoto view. The zoom range provided is OK. Many might comment that the zoom range will not permit super wide nor super telephoto shots. However the zoom range at the telephoto end is supplemented by an electronic zoom that give extra magnification and this is quite helpful.

To augment the zoom range of the PowerShot supplemental lenses are available. These are add-on lens that clamp onto the front of the existing lens and barrel. Since no provision was made for a screw-in or bayonet mount, an adapter is necessary. The telephoto supplement has a power of 1.75 meaning it add 175% to the zoom. The wide angle supplemental has a power of 0.7 stated another way its use widens angle of view by shorting the working focal length by 70%.

While these changes are not colossal they add versitility.

No plans to buy a camera with a wider zoom range? Then go for the supplemental.
