Photography Question

Canon 400D and lenses

I had bought the camera which came with the standard EFS 18-55mm, which is fine and images turn out sharp on manual and auto. But I had 2 lens that had come with an old Canon Film Slr- one of them a Canon Zoom Lens EF 80-200 and a 28-80mm - my problem is when in manual or in auto, the images turn out on the soft tone, lacking the sharpness. Can anyone give me any reason why this happens?

i have searched the net and got little info (my thoughts are the architecture of the lens and compatibility)

  Hi, Paul,

In don't know about the 28-80, but with the 80-200 you should ensure that in manual and auto the shutter speed is acceptably fast. If you're shooting without a tripod you will want 1/250 or even faster if you're shooting near 200mm.

This should be easy to test by checking your results by shooting some shots in auto or manual on a tripod.

I doubt the problem is architecture: it's a pretty good lens. I know a coupe people who like theirs enough that they see no reason to upgrade their 80-200 f/2.8 to the newer 70-200 f/2.8.

Cheers,

RK

I have done those tests....(although I will do to double check) - as regards the shutter speed yes I do make it a point to have it on the fast side to make sure to compensate...the thing is its not camera shake, (if hand held or on tripod) its more of a soft focus issue, the detail when zoomed into the image lacks the sharp detail obtained for example on the EFS 18-55mm, - I will do some more tests and upload some sample images to demonstrate the issue over the weekend (work is a bit of a nightmare at the moment hehehe)

But thanks for your reply - greatly appreciate your time :)

Regards,
Paul
