Tokina 10-17mm

Has anyone heard that the Tokina 10-17mm Canon mount lens will disable a 550/580EX flash ? I am kinda torn between the Canon 10-22 & the Tokina. There was one person that stated the flash becomes disabled with this Tokina lens and I have read lots of reviews to try to find more info about this. I will mostly use this lens without a flash for landscapes but would hate to be limited if I ever needed to use a flash with it.

I don't think the speedlite will be disabled. It'll still flash. The problem is that the flash coverage of the 550/580EX is limited to 104 degree horizontal angle of view using the built-in wide panel. The Tokina 10-17 is a fisheye lens and takes in a much wider angle of view, up to 137 degrees horizontal. You'll get a brightly flash-lit center and dark borders using flash with a fisheye lens.

Thanks Jon, You are correct about the coverage area and I would most likely bounce the flash or use the 2 flashes I have (580EX & 430EX) triggered with my ST-E2 transmitter to cover the wider angle. I just cant find any site that talks about the flash compatibility. I can e-mail the manufacturer but thought I would ask here before to see if anyone had their own experiences to share about this.
