Image not centered-Photoshop Help!

Hello,
I took a photo and my tripod must have been a little off so the image is not centered. My first question is, is there a tool in photoshop cs2 that can help adjust this shot? I was told there was under filters menu but I don't see many options. Second question, is that I know I'm missing a lot of filters. How do I get them into Photoshop?
Appreciate your help

Rosie, not seeing the picture I can only give some generic advice. The easiest thing is to crop the photo in a way that centers the image. Harder, but possibly doable would be to add canvas as needed to center the image and then cloning in the new border.

By losing your filters, if you mean that you upgraded photoshop and third party plug in filters no longer appear under the filters menu, go to Edit>Preferences>Plug Ins and you will see an option to add additional plug ins folders. Pick Browse and and go to C>Program Files>Adobe and look for a Plug In folder for a previous version of Photoshop and select it. After you restart Photoshop the filters should be there.

Thank you. I installed CS2 and see some filters in the folders but I can't get them into Photoshop. For example, I don't have the lens correction filter and etc. I don't see Preferences under the edit menu? Is that where it should be?

  Rosie,
No need to start with filters. usually they are lots of fun, and you can spend hours and hours applying them for amusement, but there will be no tools there for cropping. If you are 'missing' filters, likely the problem will be that you are in the wrong color mode or have your image in a state where filter application is not appropriate. Adding more filters before you get the basics down is not recommended -- it just adds to the number of things left to learn, and there will be plenty out of the box.

To crop your image, you need to use the Crop tool. Just open the image, press C, and that will select the crop tool for you. Once you have the tool selected, click and drag on your image. You can use the handles at the corners to resize the box to fit what you want to crop to.

You can find out a lot more about the Crop tool (and other tools) using Photoshop Help. Just select that from the Help menu in Photoshop and type in keywords about what you want to know more about.

I do an intro course on Photoshop here at betterphoto:

I hope that helps!

Rosie, I have CS3 and the path to the plug in folder selection is under the Edit menu select "preferences" and then "plug ins." This is for third party filters only. If you are not getting access to your normal Photoshop filters you have a different problem. If you can see the filters in the filter list but just cannot access them, check the photo mode. Many of the filters cannot be used on a 16 bit file. You can check this under Image>Mode. If any choice other than 8 bit is checked go ahead and change to 8 bit and then check your filter list.
