Canon EOS Hi, I am currently taking a class on BP for exposure. I own a Canon EOS Rebel TI. Does anyone understand the metering modes in this camera or can refer me to a good site. Thanks Kim 1/19/2008 2:29:06 PM |

Always read the camera manual. Exposure Control Metering Modes Max. aperture TTL metering with 35-zone SPC (1) Evaluative metering (linked to all AF points) (2) Partial metering (approx. 9% at center of viewfinder) (3) Center-weighted average metering 1.Uses most of the area of the viewfinder and calculates the exposure. 2.Uses only the very center part of the viewfinder to calculate exposure. Also called spot metering. Used to take a reading from a certain area. 3.Takes a reading from multiple areas of the viewfinder but places an emphasis on what's in the middle of the viewfinder. 1/19/2008 3:25:00 PM |

Obviously, Gregory’s advice is spot on: do read the manual carefully while you have the camera in front of you to try out new things. However, if you are enrolled in a current BP class drop the instructor a note and let him/her know that you are having an issue with metering modes with your camera. Even if the issue is outside the general context of the lesson, from experience, I can pretty well assure you that s/he will help you figure out the solution to your problem. I’ve taken a number of BP classes and asked all sorts of “stupid” questions of my teachers and have never had anyone be anything other than helpful. Just because the class is on exposure does not mean that you cannot ask other questions. Good luck! Irene 1/20/2008 6:44:55 AM |

Thanks to both of you. I have read the manual several times and understand now the differences in the meter modes. I guess I thought that I would be able to set which mode I wanted when taking a picture where it be in TV or AV settings, which is not the case is this camera. EI: centerwieghted avg metering is only set automatically in Manual settings. But I learning. Thanks Kim
