Photography Question

Stacy L. Robertson

Premium Colors?????

I was wondering, how does one change the background color and font style on your premium gallery pages? I have seen some with black and some with red backgrounds and I want to do that to mine. Thanks!

I've been trying to accomplish this myself for the last week or so. I've gotten instructions from a couple of people on how to use html code to do this, but it doesn't work for me. I'm wondering if it's because I use Safari on Mac OS X Leopard. It seems to work for other people, but I'm frustrated by it!

You make the changes thru the "Gallery Text" option...after you're logged in, you'll see a tab for "Member Info." Click it. On the left hand side, you'll see links for Contact Info, Change Password, etc. The last one is Gallery Text. Click it...and you'll see an input box. That's where you copy the HTML code.

Of course, you need to get the HTML code to copy into there. I can cut/paste my HTML code and send to you, if you like...assuming you like a tan background...just send me an e-mail via the contact button. Otherwise, I recommend you contact a BP member that has a nice background, and ask them to send you their gallery text. THen, you plug it into your Gallery Text input box.

Ken, therein lies the rub -- when I look at your gallery, I see a white background. I was emailing with another member who tried to help me, and she gave me the code to copy her bg -- but again, when I look at her gallery, I see a white bg. Do you think it's that I'm on a Mac, or that my browser is Safari, that is the problem? What color background do you see when you look at my gallery? Because I pasted code in my gallery text, and it's still white to me, although the color of my hyperlinks changed.

Deb, I have your gallery up, side by side with mine. Your gallery is white; mine is tan or off-white..not a big difference, but certainly noticeable. I have no idea why this occurs for you. Awhile back, I tried to change my gallery color to black, but it didn't work. But, I know of others that could make the change. Sorry I"m not more help.

Look at "tools" and look into the "options".
Then click "content" and see in font's and colors if it says anything about allowing pages display their own colors.

Deb, when I look at your gallery's page source, the code (you said you pasted) is not present. Have you removed it since then?..

Look at my gallery and see what colors you see. If white, follow Gregory's steps, then look at the gallery again. (You may have to do "Refresh" the screen.)

Well, the HTML has made my gallery pages disappear! I can't access my text info box, and I can't make anything work. Guess I wasn't meant to have a red background.

You have some error in HTML code, and
Internet Explorer browser is not very forgiving of errors in HTML code.
If you use Firefox or another browser, you may see the whole gallery.

If you can, blank out the gallery text entirely and start over...
Remember to write down your original blurb prior to doing this.

Stacy, I can see your gallery in Firefox browser. If you have firefox maybe you can access the gallery text yourself.

Also, You should put the code in the top part of the box above the text.

You can use "red" or "darkred".
It's just that you have a couple of errors in the code...
Now, you may not see much in your gallery text area, you should be able to blank out by:
- go to the Gallery Text area
- place the cursor in the text box
- press "Ctrl-A" (this is to "select-all"
- press "Del" key to erase all.
- do "Submit"

This procedure cleans the slate back to the beginning.

Now, put your original blurb back.
By the way, your original Gallery Text blurb is:
"Welcome to my gallery! I love to shoot portraits, weddings, and macro shots of flowers. I have a passion for eyes', please use your eyes' to explore my work and thank-you for any comments!"

(If you need more info, send me a msg using the contact button on the left.)

I am using Firefox now, because I downloaded it this morning when I was having issues with my own gallery using Safari. But yes, Stacy, I can see your red pages, all of your photos, and your text. It looks great -- if you can get it fixed so that you can see, you'll love it!

You did good, Stacy.
Your gallery looks great with "darkred" background.

btw, I hope you do not think I am a nitpicker..., but you see a > sign at the end of your Gallery Text? One extra > sign is tacked on in your inserted code for the colors. I just thought I would mention it. Fix it when you feel like it, otherwise, no one may notice it... - nobi

Here is what I have for mine, but mine is a pinkish color right now.

I suppose you will have to change text color to white if you go with a black BG. Here are a couple places to choose colors from
http://www.immigration-usa.com/html_colors.html

or

http://www.computerhope.com/htmcolor.htm

Oops!! LOL I put my code in and changed the BG (around the edges anyway) of this page!! And the code I was trying to give you for an example doesn't show up. Let me try again to give you what I have w/o the color inserted! Ok, here it is without the color's number

Right after the word color: where I inserted the underscore, you put in the code for the color you want. Do not underline it though; I just did that to show you where the number goes.

Well, the code did not show up again! I don't know what to do now...someone else will have to give you the code in whatever way they gave it to Stacy. Then you can use the charts to choose your color if you want!

This is my story. I changed my white background to black. I have a Premium Gallery. All was well, except no pages, or my name on top. I thought I was so smart and went clicking in unknown territory. Now I can NO LONGER see my gallery. The whole page is black, with no gallery photos. I do see my photo in upper right corner. When I go back to Gallery option in Member Information, all I see is half of a white page. I can see my sort page and the editing page. I called BP, and I emailed them twice fessing up to exactly what I did. I have heard nothing in 3 days now. I am very frustrated. Some people say they can see my gallery with black background, and some say in white. I sit here and wait for BP to respond. Any suggestions?

  Hi Jane,

You might try a system restore, and restore your computer back to the day before you made any changes to your gallery. At least you would be back at the point where you started. Good luck!

Actually I don't see the white text. Maybe you don't have any text of your own? You have to copy and paste it in the top the the box.

Thank you Martha and Jessica, I am not on my own computer, so will try what you suggested this evening at home. My poor tech skills. Are you saying go to start, and system restore that way? Or from the actual black page I see? I have not heard from BP as of yet. I now know I should of came to this discussion board before doing what I did. Thanks so much!

when changing your background colour, you need to remember to have a text color that is complimentary to it. You run into problems when the background is black and the text was not changed from black or gray. If you hold down your right mouse click and highlight it, you will see the text is still there.

Martha and Jessica, Thanks. I will see what I can do tonight when I get home. I can't even get to a gallery text page. When I click on gallery text, the normal box doesn't come up where you can actually enter a code or anything! It is half of a white page, with Better Photo heading at top, this is it. I know what I did. Orginally when I put in the code to turn to black, I omitted the last script on it! /style>. This is why I am in a pickle. Maybe restoring would help I don't know. If BP would just respond to me. I can enter pictures, but I can never see them on my gallery. Only in editing part and the sort page. I am a strange case here, uggg. THANKS for your willingness to help me!

GUESS WHAT ladies? I just checked it again and now it is ALL BACK TO NORMAL completely!!! Moments ago I had the black as I described. I didn't do anything to it either. Maybe BP stepped in? I called them again earlier today and left another message. I am in TOTAL SHOCK. I want the black screen again, but now fear to do anything. I will still check it again when I get home on my own computer. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!
