Equipment for Nikon D40

this is rather an opinionated question..

what do you think is the best equipment for the Nikon D40 especially if you only plan to be a hobbyist? :)

Hi Rainier, this is really difficult to respond to not knowing what you already have and what you want to do but here are three thoughts. 1) Photo editing software such as Photoshop Elements. 2) A decent photo printer. 3) An external flash.

thanks.. :).. what I have is a 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 nikorr lens and a 552-200mm 4-5.6 nikorr lens... that's all .:)... still new to photography and i'm still on to trying to improve myself. .:)..

i plan to buy a speedlite..don't know what to buy though.. :)... and I don't have an editing software yet.. nor a printer..

i just post my pics in the net.. don't want to use up paper.. :). hahaha.. plus i'm just sort of a hobbyist and don't intend to use photography as my full time job.. but I do plan to make it my part-time job. :)

With the D40, I would go with either the Nikon SB600 or SB800 speedlight.

I also just picked up a D40, as a hobbyist but also stepping up from a Coolpix 5700 which I used for budget paid work when I couldn't afford a real photographer (I mainly do graphic design/web promotional material). I'm sure a tripod is given, but only having my D40 for less than a couple of weeks, I already find my remote indespensible, especially if you plan on doing self-portraits. The look is more relaxed because you're not running over after selecting the 20s delay. Also, I am finding my gorilla? flex mini tripod very, very handy for macro work, especially for spontaneous work (eye level shots of squirrels playing nearby, etc). I have a macro tube set I got on eBay, but haven't really figured it out yet. I got also an LCD screen protector. Don't know how important it is, but it was probably the cheapest thing I got for the camera. I got a 3pc filter set, but I haven't cracked that open yet. I love my D40 and just looking for excuses to use it. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine.
