Thanks for your help. Jeannie D

Jeannie, I just checked the canon site and it looks like the 75-300 is not image stabilized (IS). Here's the link: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=150

According to Canon Museum, the first EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 (without USM) lens was introducted in June 92. Since then there were various upgrades to this lens: EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 II in July 95 The IS version was the very first lens in Canon history to incoporate IS technology (and I own a piece of this history, LOL). In June 2004, a significant improved lens with similar focal range was introduced, the EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM, aimed at the professional market with Diffractive Optics technology. The newer EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM that came out in Oct. 2005 was to replace the 75-300mm IS version. The major differences include replacement of one lens element with Ultralow Dispersion (UD) glass element that improved image quality, better lens coatings, improved IS mechanism, mode 2 IS option for panning, and the zoom ring can be locked at 70mm position. You can find all the information here: http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/index.html Hope this helps.

Agreed. And the current 70-300mm IS zoom is much! better than the older models. See the Review at www.bobatkins.com/photography/reviews/ef_70_300is_review.html Cheers! Peter K. Burian
