PS CS3

I just up graded to PS CS3. Can anyone recommend a good book, preferably one with a cd or dvd? I saw two, Adobe PS CS3 In a Classroom and PS CS3 for Photographers, but could not decide. Help.

  Peter,
It really depends on your level of familiarity with the program. If you've been using Photoshop for 10 years and just got CS3 then I might recommend something different than if you are a completely new user. Also, how you like to learn can matter, your expertise with photography, what you'll be doing with it, etc.

Give us some background and we can give you better suggestions.

Richard Lynch

Thanks Richard and Dennis. I have been using PS 7 for a few years but am not real good with it. I know a little more than the basics, mainly by trial and error. I am a visual learner rather than a book learner and am not all that computer literate. I had the Adobe PS 7 Classroom in a Book and kind of lost interest in it. I used to do my own darkroom work with film and have been shooting for a while, mainly motorsports.

Peter, you might consider a class here on BP. Richard teaches PS and Elements. I have quite a bit experience in PS and the Classroom in a Book totally lost my interest. I didn't like it at all. I am a visual leaner also. I think if you know the basics, you can learn alot by experimenting (always on a duplicate image). Having the wet darkroom knowledge helps also. Richard may be better knowledgable on which books to look into. Have fun!

Scott Kelby has the best book on CS3 I think because he offers quick easy to follow examples to FAQ's. The book is laid out in a way that the reader can easily read a 2-4page answer to most problems. You can find it on amazon.com used/new.

Here's two books from Scott Kelby...I got both for Christmas. Tons of pictures! They're super...and, you'll learn to shoot in RAW and use the RAW conversion utility..a bonus.

1. The Adobe Photoshop CS3 Book for Digital Photographers

2. Scott Kelby's 7-point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3

Here's another vote for Scott Kelby's books! He's the only technical writer that doesn't put me to sleep!
