I cannot think of a single lens that would be ideal for all wedding photography.

What lenses do you already have? And how much do you want to spend?

Once I know that, I can recommend what other lens you might want.

Cheers! Peter K. Burian

You should have the 16-35L 2.8 for weddings...and a backup XTi at the very least. Then I'd get the 24-70L 2.8.

Try the Cannon 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 I have shot a wedding just fine. Stay away from fixed focal length wide angles though. Also be careful when shooting a big group at a wide angle, you will get distortion and loose focus on the edges and may not notice it until your editing them.

Kathy, I work with a top wedding/event photographer. Fast glass is a MUST at wedding/events in low light. I just don't see how you could shoot with an f/4+ lens in low light and get High Quality photos...my ideal wedding lens setup.
16-35 2.8
24-70 2.8
70-200 2.8IS
50mm 1.2/1.4
85mm 1.2/1.8

I mean this is what we go into weddings with, sure its not a MUST but at our events I can't imagine any other way.

sure but not all weddings are in low light the weddings around here in my area are outside or are in light... Never been to a dark wedding beforeand most likely you would be using a flash. So that would most likely take care of your f/4.0-5.6. Not everyone can afford a setup of that many lenses.
