Photography Question

Dolly L. Davis

How do I light this backdrop?

I bought this backdrop off ebay. I used a steamer on it, but I either did it wrong, or it didn't work like it should. Either way, I am not sure how to light it. I have never used a scenic backdrop before, and I have my first portraits next week for a family with this backdrop, and need help knowing how to use a scenic backdrop. Thank ya so much! Dolly :)

I couldn't get it to show up here, but it is in my gallery. Thanks!

That background doesn't look good, Dolly. How about steaming it once more, good, and then rolling it up very carefully (and leaving it for a couple days) so that it flattens itself?

  Dolly,
yes steam or iron this once more then store rolled up.
with most senic backgrounds you do not use a back light, you will take away from the effect.
I myself had this same backdrop, it is beautiful and photographs so beautifully, but DO NOT WASH IT!!!
I photographed a with it for about two weeks, I had a toddler about 1 1/2 years old,
one day and did some fairy pictures.
We did one naked fairy looking over her shoulder and thats all it took, she soiled it, I washed it, and the goofballs that made it used a water based paint-it is now a spotty white cloth.
Wishing you the very best,
Debby

Most scenic backdrops you see that are smooth are pulled tight with clamps on stands.

Thank you all so much. I am pretty new to backdrops, aside from white and black, those seemed easier. lol. I will iron it and roll it and never wash it. I appriciate your help very much. I was kinda lost as to what to do, I have only taken portraits once, and that was a girl letting me practice tryin. So, I am excited to learn, have a lot of books I am reading, but none say anything about these scenics. Thanks again so much!!
