Aslan I was just looking for some feedback on why folks think this image did not move forward in the monthly contest? It is my work entitled 'Aslan' number 5128408. My guess is that it is too "generic" and not engaging enough? Am I right, and can this be improved? Thanks

Mundy, this is truely an outstanding photo, but whos to say what the judges based thier decision on? maybe one of them will answer your question.

Thanks Brenda, I guess in a way that is what I was hoping for even though I think I do know the answer.

Hi Mundy I think its a beautiful shot. I enter a lot of African wildlife shots in here and I always find the judges selecrions differ to mine. My favourite shot is of a leopard in Botswana. It has won a gold medal for me in a European International Salon and yet despite entering here several times I cant get it even to editors pick stage. I think the animal portraits they like are face on and up close. They like strong eye contact. I think your shot is brilliant but overall the jusdges do a great job sifting through so many shots. Reenter it and see.

Thanks John, I agree with you about what they are likely looking for. I guess I was hoping for reassurance, how sad is that! I appreciate your feedback and sharing your own story. Cheers

I like the framing, angle and lighting of the photo, but I think too much post-processing may have "cheapened" it. In my view, it looks more like one of those velvet paintings you can buy in the tourist shops in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. I'd love to see a version without as much photoshopping. Just my two cents' worth...
