Studio lighting

I have a Canon Rebel XT which I love , I am interested in getting a set of umbrella or box studio lights for home portraits. What would be the best way to sync the studio light/flashes to the camera? I have read about IR , wireless remotes , but don't know which one is better. I know with this camera it has to be a wireless type , but what are the pros and cons of the different available types.

Hi Wayne,

IR: no wires to trip over; max. 20 feet range
wireless remotes: no wires to trip over; radio controlled; max. 1500 feet range; most expensive
wired: simplest; cheapest; most reliable; wire length is range; wires WILL be tripped over.

One is not 'better' than the other. They're all different. Some features will appeal to you, others won't. You choose which works best for you in YOUR situation.

I prefer IR because it's wireless and not expensive (many cams and flashguns have it built-in already). For pro wildlife photography I'd want a radio controlled wireless remote system.
