lens for my XTI Hi....I would like to upgrade the lens for my canon xti and was wondering what would be a good lens for everyday use. Is there a 18-135 or 18-200 lens that is good. I really don't want to spend more than $500. And I want a nice lens that will work well. Thanks to all that respond to this question.

I have the same camera as you and purchased a 75-300 Canon lens with stabilizer. I have been thrilled with the capabilities of this lens. I can take action shots at the motorcycle races from a good distance away. Even better, I can zoom in on the grandkids and blur the backgrounds and the pictures have been just wonderful. I use both lens for different things. Also used this 75-300 lens to set up a "portrait" time with the kids. Being able to put the lens on a tripod and move it back is great for little ones when you want to get their attention and not have them looking at the camera so close. Hope that helps. I am getting ready to post a question about a lens too! Deb

In your price range, I would recommend the Canon 28-135mm IS lens (~$400). The only problem with this lens is that it is lacking wide angle capabilities. I have the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 that I really like - for the price (~$400), you can't beat it. Either lens is great - just depends on what you like to photograph. Good luck!
