How about the new Epson 260/380 printers? They're using a new archival dye ink, for very intense colors, yet the print will last almost 100 years without noticeable fading.

You can get the 260 for under $100, also.

My only concern is the price of the inks, but all of these printers have expensive inks. I think the printer manufacturers are following the razor business model... give the razor away at low or no cost and charge like mad for the blades!

I don't know if the new Clarion inks are basically the same as the Epson Archival Inks used in printers like the old 5500/7500/9500 (I bet they are), but the lack of ability to buy ink in bulk is the one thing keeping me from getting one of these printers. I'll stick with my 2200 and the large 110ml ink carts for the bigger guys.

However, if you're looking for incredible print quality at a very reasonable price, then the 260 or it's 13" wide larger brother 1400 is a very good deal.
