LOOKING FOR A LESS EXPENSIVE MACRO LENS Just got a XTI 400D and now I want a good macro lens that will take sharp pics without putting up alot of money. I love macro and cant really afford $600.00 right now for one. Any suggestions?

why don't you buy used??? buy from the ModelMayhem.com market or Photo.net site. I once bought a lens from a pawn shop in LA but there are a TON of photographers in LA that are poor and need the $$$. That way when you move up to a better camera you gotta great lens, its all about the lens anyways. (thats not really the case but I thought it would sound kinda cool)

EF 50 f/2.5 Macro, Sigma 50 f/2.8 EX DG Macro are less than $300. EF-S 60 f/2.8 USM Macro, Sigma 105 f/2.8 EX DG HSM Macro and Tokina 100 f/2.8 Pro D are about $400.

For used, KEH.com is about as reputable as they get. For new, I own the Tokina 100mm macro and is is a very nice lens and priced very well. Bill

Ritz/Wolf Cameras has the Quantaray 50/2.8 macro on sale for around $100. This is the same lens as the Sigma 50/2.8 EX Macro... just not as pretty. It's the greatest new macro lens bargain out there. If you want an even better deal, pick up a Pentax SMC Takumar 50/4 Macro lens with an M42 mount, a set of M42 macro extension tubes, and get the M42-to-EOS adapter. This will give you an incredible macro lens... better than the Sigma... although it won't be autofocus and you'll have to understand how to use it with your camera.
