one lens, two different cameras? I've started a photography class about two months ago so I don't really know much about cameras and their equipment. We have a digital camera(Canon Powershot A80) and an old film camera (Canon AE-1). Is it possible to use one lens(fisheye) for both cameras? I know that for the digital camera, a "conversion lens adapter" must be attached in order to use any lens, so I was wondering if I could buy and use a film camera lens and attach it to the adapter for the digital camera. And if so, would the quality of the images be as good if I used the lens that is actually supposed to be used? Sorry if it's confusing, I tried my best. haha.

Generally, no, you can't use a lens meant for one camera on another. In your specific instance (digicam, old 35mm SLR), it really isn't feasible. Why do you want a fisheye lens? Or, do you just want a really wide-angle lens? If the latter, invest in some panorama software instead, and you can make very wide-angle images with your digicam. Look at my gallery for some examples of panoramas. The Capilano Bridge image is comprised of two images taken with an 18mm lens for a field of view of more than 90 degrees... that's pretty wide!

Thanks for responding. your pictures are great! My parents and I are going on a trip to the Grand Canyon. I've read that fisheye lens get more into the picture than the normal wide-angle lens. So I thought it would be appropriate. I also have another question: are there any GOOD fisheye lens sold on ebay/amazon that aren't the Canon brand? (I don't have a job and I don't have a whole bunch of money lying around) Thanks

Both ebay links are for the same 0.42x wide angle adapter. It is intended for use on a compact digital camera like the A80. While it can be attached to the front filter threads of a 35mm SLR lens, it will generally be unsatisfactory as its diameter is too small (46mm at the lens side) and will cause serious vignetting (dark corners). If you want that extreme fisheye view, get it from the seller in the 2nd link who includes the necessary tube adapter needed for the A80 and don't bother with using it on your AE-1.
