Photography Question

D50 sometimes won't shoot

Once in a while my D50 won't shoot when I hit the shutter button. It appears to be unwilling to accept that the image is/can be focused. I have to flip to manual focus to get it to fire. This is with or without the AF Assist light being on. Anyone else run across this problem, and is there some deep dark secret setting on the camera to get around it?

Sometimes I have that problem too. Especially if I am trying to take a picture of the clouds. It is that it just can't focus on the object that you are trying to shoot. So I too switch to manual focus. I guess like us humans our camera's aren't perfect either.

The auto-focus works by maximizing the contrast at edges in the portion of the scene you have designated as the key area.

Because of this, low light conditions or inherently non-contrasty subjects (like clouds) make it impossible for the camera to capture a defined enough contrast to work.
