Photography Question

Good Photo Software

So, since you people are great photographers and really know what your doing, I'd like to ask what Photo editing software I should get/use.

I have Arc Soft, and I have photoshop elements 5.0

except for, I was really short of money, and I bought photoshop on ebay for thirty bucks, and I think I got ripped off. I think it's like a sample, or trial, or something and it says it came with like a bundle? it doesn't seem to have many features. I don't need a perfect, all around professional editor. I just need something that can do the things I need.

I was wondering whether it was photoshop, or something else that I could get that would do the following things:

Sharpening Curves (or something that makes the edges of the things in pics look sharp and look like it's popping out at you.)
Saturation
Contrast
black and white convert
sharpening

thanks, if I get any suggestions.

  Brian,

I saw you posted the same question in the other thread. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. They now have X2 out. You can download and use it for free for 30 days. You may want to try it. I'll probably upgrade to the latest version because of a couple of features.

I went with this program over Photo Shop for two reasons. First was price. It had a lot if not all of the same features as PS for a lot less money. Second, I only use the sharpening, saturation, contrast, and a few other features and didn't need PS. And to me it is much more user friendly. I have been extremely satisfied with it.

There are also some free photo editing softwares out there; but, the only one I'm familiar with is PhotoFilter. There is also PS Elements out there; but, I'm not sure what features it has.

I hope this helps.

Brian, the current version of photoshop elements will do everything you are interested in. You could also consider Lightroom which will do the tasks you mentioned and help you organize your photos.
