Photography Question

Amber J. Skene

Probably a dumb question about software

Hello everyone! I have a few questions, and I am sure they have been answered or probably dumb to ask, but I would really appreciate some help.

I am a beginer, but have noticed a lot of people use software to edit their pictures. So, my question is:

1. Do you have to shoot in RAW to edit photos in photoshop?

I have not shot any photos in RAW yet, haven't ventured there yet. But, I would like to change my backgrounds to black or add blur. Can I do this without shooting in RAW?

I'd really hate to buy software if I can't really use it til I start shooting in RAW.

Thank you for your time and help!

Amber

Amber, before you venture into RAW, you really need to get some basic photo editing software. There have been other threads on that subject in the forums. And threads on RAW versus JPG. I use Elements 4.0, and the 5.0 version is out there now...costs around $75 I believe. And there are great tutorials out there on Elements, and books.

  Carolyn and Ken,

Thank you very much for answering my question. I appreciate it. I am sure once I get my software, I'll be back asking more questions. Thanks again!
