Removing unwanted subject How can I remove an unwanted subject from a photo? I am using the software that is supplied with Nikon cameras. Or do I need another type program?

I don't know what software comes with Nikons, but the boat in the background could be removed with a clone tool.

Hi Steve, Chris is correct. I use Microsoft digital suites 10, and this looks easy enough to use the clone tool of blending brush. PS also has a great clone tool. If you dont have a program with a clone tool, you could send me the picture, and I can see what I can do for you. marylarry@earthlink.net. I would be happy to help you out. Mary

I'm having a bit of a problem understanding why you want to delete the boat in the background. That's because, if you took this picture, you composed it with the family to right, thereby allowing the boat to fill dead space in the upper left. There must have been a reason. If not, you should do more editing beyond cloning out the boat. The arms of the adults in the picture are already horribly cropped. You should complete their deletion. You should also ceneter the family during that cropping process. You need to burn in the faces of, at least, the young boy - but maybe the father, too. Finally, if you're using Photoshop, you should check the results achieved with the Auto Levels Tool. It's unclear [no pun intended] whether uploading to the BP forum impacted the sharpness of this image. I'd try the Unsharp Mask "because."
