Our friend Melissa is fostering this puppy, Adzuki. She brought him over one night, and our other friend, Charmaine, played with him until he decided he was ready for a nap. When he fell asleep in her lap, I dashed for my camera and tripod hoping to capture the scene before Adzuki woke up.

Happy Cocktails & Chocolate Countdown time, everyone! Yup, it’s time once again for the monthly thread that gives us all an opportunity to show off, brag, revel, and hope!

Before we move on, I just wanted to make an announcement.

Due to an overwhelming demand on my time, this will have to be the last Cocktails & Chocolate thread that I initiate. This does not mean, however, that the C&C thread is going away. Far from it. Our good friend Chris B. has graciously agreed to take over--at least in the short term--stewardship of the thread. Chris is a great person and a fantastic photographer. As many of you already know, he's also very knowledgeable about the contest and BP. I think he's a top notch person to carry the torch. Please join me in a round of applause for Chris!

Now, on to the business at hand.

Please jump in and share either that one photo you really, really think is going to garner a medal or that one you really, really WISH would bring home the silver or gold.

I know the thread is necessarily going to be a bit different this month because of the fact that we already know which of our photos are in the running and which are not. If you aren’t aware, BP has announced that the Editors’ First Pick awards signify those images that have made it to the next round of judging. The finalists are chosen from the pool of EFPs.

In that spirit, I’m not going to choose my favorite from those images of mine that are “still in the running.” That photo this month is “Napping.” I was hesitant to select this image because I didn’t want to have another animal photo this month. However, I like it a bunch and, well, it still has a chance.

As always, I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone has been shooting. Each month I get excited anew over all the fantastic work that shows up in our humble little thread. Even though I’m not going to be starting the thread from here on out, I am still going to stop by and contribute.

Like always, just to help everyone along, I'm adding some uploading tips that Chris B. kindly prepared for us a while back. I think it helps a lot of people, and it would be convenient to have it right here at the top of the post:

----------

A few helpful notes to newcomers (or any BP newbies too, contributing to Forum Threads with photos.)

1) Sign into BP completely (name + password.)

2) If you have NOT yet entered an image into the contest for the day, you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull a single, pre-existing image from your Gallery, into this thread. (ie, no need for a duplicate upload!) Be sure to go to your Member Center and write down the Photo ID# in question. Then come to this thread, hit Respond, choose "1" from the drop-down of how many images you wish to attach, and on the next screen, populate the "Photo ID" box at the far right. No need to fill in any of the other fields on the screen.

3) If you HAVE already made a contest for the day before you came to this thread, you cannot use the Photo ID method, and you will have to upload a new copy (from your PC) of your "favorite image" in order to include it in this thread. It will result in a "duplicate" image in your Member Center, but you do NOT have to elect to display it in your Gallery. (So if you have the Free Gallery, it doesn't have to count as one of your 30 max. on display.)

4) Many folks title their freshly-uploaded/duplicate copy (for this thread) something like "July Fav" so that in your Member Center, it stands out from the original upload... and add "Original displayed in my Gallery" in the description.

5) If you see a photo in this thread, and want to comment on it directly, first check to see if any older-dated comments are on it--if not, it is likely the person's "duplicate"---as a courtesy, try to find the original in that person's gallery, and leave a comment there, instead---that way, if they want to delete the duplicate a month later for housecleaning, they don't wipe out any comments.

6) Make a record of all your current-month Contest Entries at the end of each month; on the last day of the month, BP will reset your "Current Entries" page in your Member Center, to make way for your entries in the next month's contest. The record of entries (say, for May's entries) will make it easier to determine your favorite, when we start this thread next month.

----------

And so, thank you for all the fun these past several months. I’ve truly enjoyed my involvement in this thread. I look forward to being a part of it in a different way.

And now…it’s show time, folks!
