Indoors, flash is a necessity to freeze fast action. Set your flash for rear-curtain syncif you can.

You didn't mention what type of camera you have. If you have a digital point & shoot, good luck. The shutter lag will make it very difficult and very frustrating to time your shots properly.

Tips???? I usually go a $1 but $5 if they're really talented....JK Seriously that was in poor taste, but I can't help it. You hopefully have a SLR, the settings will greatly depend on how much light is available to you. To capture the dancer you've got to pan with the dancer. This will give the subject a cool look of motion like the motorcycle racers I shoot...of course light is great outdoors so I use M mode and shutter speed differs depending on what type of look I'm trying for.

Firstly many thanks for responding...I have a canon EOS-1 mark 11, I mostly take pictures outdoors or in a studio with studio lighting, I have however a canon 580 EX speedlite which ive never used. The dancer has a very large studio but ive never been so dont know what the lighting is going to be like. Can you help me with what setting the camera and flash should be? Do I just attached the flash and turn it on or does if have to be programmed?
