Pringing Question

My friend has a query about printers - anyone have some advice?

'I did some homework on the net looking at other canon brands and settled on the iP6700D .. but was talked out of it by the salesman today, and came home with a MP600 which just isn't up to scratch in comparison with the i965 ...
would you recommend the 6tanker type instead of the 5 tanker .. this 5 only consists of black, PG black, photo cyan photo magenta and yellow ...and it is just not putting out the colour quality as my old one ... very disappointed.
.. what brand? how many tanks?

Nat, I just bought a new printer and did a lot of research beforehand. It came down to the Epson 3800 and the comparable Canon (I can't remember the model number). From everything I read the Canon appeared to have a very slight edge in print quality but there were a number of reports of problems that Canon would not address. So I went with the Epson because they have the reputation of being very customer friendly. Seeing the prints the 3800 makes, I have not had any regrets.

In the past couple of years Canon and HP have introduced several new and interesting printers to the market, but Epson is still the standard for comparison.

If you'll never print larger than 8x10, the Epson R800 is an excellent choice, and the R1800 lets you print up to 13" wide. Both of these printers have excellent quality and use archival inks so your prints won't fade after a year or two.

If you want to play, and print, with the Big Boys, look at the R2400, the R3800, the R4800, and the R9800. The R2400 is the 'professional' version of the R1800, with different inks and is more suitable for printing on matte paper. The other Epsons are bigger and much more expensive.

Given your initial choice of the iP6700D, I'd recommend the Epson R800. It has the same capabilities, but it's an Epson.
