You use lenses that are made to fit the kind of camera you want to get.

Hi So that means if you buy a Canon you need a lens with a Canon mount, for a Pentax you need a Pentax mount etc.

Hi, thanks Gregory and Melissa for your answers. But I'm not sure I understand. How do I find a lens like that? If I were to buy a Cannon EOS 400D, how should I find a lens for it? I don't know where to begin searching? I don't want to bother the dealer if I have to ask them, so I want to make sure what I want first. Please help me.

Thuy, If you buy a Canon camera, look first on the Canon web site to see a complete listing of Canon lenses. Also, you can always find a third-party lens maker, such as Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, etc., that offer lenses with Nikon or Canon mounts. Google search for "lenses for Canon DSLRs" and you shuld see compatible lenses. Your main choice is to find a lens, or lenses, that meet your needs such as aperture and zoom ranges. John

Okay, now I'm not understanding what your main dilemma is. Are you stuck on where to buy lenses for a Canon camera, or out of the different lenses that fit a Canon, you're not sure which one to buy? Because you can use adorama.com to look around by using their search tools. They let you categorize by searching for brand of lenses, and by which camera it's made to fit. So you can look at all the different brand of lenses they sell that are made to fit Canon cameras.

It's hard for me to say it clearly; I've tried my best though. I'm sorry. But the information you gave is very helpful to me. Thanks a lot, John and Greg. ps: My point above is that I don't know how to find a lens that is made for my camera.

Well then, any store that you can walk into and buy a camera, you'll be able to buy a lens. However, how many different varieties depends on the store. If you don't live in a country that makes delivery from UPS or HDL difficult, then look online at adorama, or B&H, or Calumet. That's how you can find a lens.
