Wireless Purchases

I have a Canon 30D with 580EX Flash. What I want to be able to do is stand away from the camera & trigger the camera & flash from a wireless remote. Customer Service said for my needs I could use the Adorama Wireless Radio Remote to trigger the camera. Also a Microsync Transmitter/Receiver System to trigger the flash. I'm wondering if I need both, or do I just need the Adorama remote?

If the flash is connected to the camera, either by the hotshoe, or by a sync cable, then you just need to trigger the camera, you don't need to trigger the flash also.

What if it's not connected by sync cable. Will the Transmitter/Receiver be the connection?

  Pam,
I have had the wireless and find them somewhat unreliable.
I bought these for my 20D and now my D200 and love them!
with 16ft of cord I can play with th echildren I am photographing to get that perfect expression.

on Ebay:

and Jon has told me those cheap triggers for the lights on ebay work well also. I myself bought Litelinks.
I hope this helps,
Debby

Thanks Debbie & Chris for your helpful information. When you say "cheap triggers for the lights on ebay" what words can I use in the ebay search engine to find these? Also, I looked at the Litelinks on the Shutterbug website. Are these similar to the Microsync Transmitter/Receiver System mentioned above?

  Pam,
I am adding a link to them.
I am sorry, but Greg got out of the shower and it was time for our coffee, so I had to cut it short.
as for the remote for the camera, I find the corded MUCH more reliable.

as for what to search for : Triggers/ radio controllers under cameras.

I was looking at my 580EX & was wondering; how do you connect a receiver to the flash?
