Photography Question

How to Upload a Sharp Photo

Try as I might, even re-imaging to a smaller size, I cannot seem to get the sharpness in my photos once they upload to the site. The colors also fade. The photos never look the same as they do before I upload. So, how can I get that same quality after as I do before the upload? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Susan... here's what I do; not sure if you've tried some or all of this, but I've not noticed the problems you describe, when I upload...

1. Edit image as desired. (Sometimes I'll sharpen very lightly here, depending on the image, as well as in step 3.)
2. Resize image to 480p on the short side, letting the long side resize automatically.
3. Apply sharpening to this small image as needed.
4. Save as TIF & upload.

I also find that the final, edited image I see while viewing it in Photoshop, looks a good bit different when viewed off my C: drive, in Windows Picture/Fax Viewer (ie, before I even upload anything.)
And, that Windows Viewer "result" I see, is much closer to what I'll see on BP (when I view an image via Windows Internet Explorer)---so I often use the Win Viewer as a final test, if in doubt before I upload, to see if any further adjustments may be needed on my small-size image.

Susan, I take the same steps as Christopher does and have seen similar results. Sometimes the image seems a bit too sharp in PS, but I always check it in my Windows picture and fax viewer. I have found it to be the way it will look when uploaded to bp when viewed there.

Hey thanks Chris and Judyann. I haven't tried putting it in a tif file yet. So, I guess I'll do that.

Hi Susan, In addition to the above suggestions make certain your color setting is srgb and not rgb it made a big difference for me.
