As for the "being notified when your favorite BP photographers make new uploads" ... well, unfortunately, as you have discovered ... it's just not working as planned, due to technical problems. That feature is in the works, but it may be a week or two before it's up and running. Sorry about the inconvenience, but meanwhile, until it's fixed, keep enjoying the other new features!
