Cocktails & Chocolate, Countdown to June '07

Happy Cocktails & Chocolate Countdown time, everyone! Yup, itís time once again for the monthly thread that gives us all an opportunity to show off, brag, revel, and hope! Please jump in and share either that one photo you really, really think is going to garner a medal or that one you really, really WISH would bring home the silver or gold.

I have several favorites this month, but I've decided to share "When Puppies Eat," a pretty self explanatory pic!

I'm really looking forward to seeing all your fantastic photos! So much great work is represented here each month.

As always, I'm adding some uploading tips that Chris B. kindly prepared for us:

----------
A few helpful notes to newcomers (or any BP newbies too, contributing to Forum Threads with photos.)

1) Sign into BP completely (name + password.)

2) If you have NOT yet entered an image into the contest for the day,you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull a single, pre-existing image from your Gallery, into this thread. (ie, no need for a duplicate upload!) Be sure to go to your Member Center and write down the Photo ID# in question. Then come to this thread, hit Respond, choose "1" from the drop-down of how many images you wish to attach, and on the next screen, populate the "Photo ID" box at the far right. No need to fill in any of the other fields on the screen.

3) If you HAVE already made a contest for the day before you came to this thread, you cannot use the Photo ID method, and you will have to upload a new copy (from your PC) of your "favorite image" in order to include it in this thread. It will result in a "duplicate" image in your Member Center, but you do NOT have to elect to display it in your Gallery. (So if you have the Free Gallery, it doesn't have to count as one of your 30 max. on display.)

4) Many folks title their freshly-uploaded/duplicate copy (for this thread) something like "April Fav" so that in your Member Center, it stands out from the original upload... and add "Original displayed in my Gallery" in the description.

5) If you see a photo in this thread, and want to comment on it directly, first check to see if any older-dated comments are on it--if not, it is likely the person's "duplicate"---as a courtesy, try to find the original in that person's gallery, and leave a comment there, instead---that way, if they want to delete the duplicate a month later for housecleaning, they don't wipe out any comments.

6) Make a record of all your current-month Contest Entries at the end

of each month; on the last day of the month, BP will reset your "Current Entries" page in your Member Center, to make way for your entries in the next month's contest. The record of entries (say, for May's entries) will make it easier to determine your favorite, when we start this thread next month.

----------

Let the fun begin!

--John

That is such a terrific shot, John; getting down at "dish level" really makes the image stand out.
Here are my 2 favs from June; I picked two this time around, because they are both firsts, photographically, for me... a stitched pano image, and a picture of all things, a live person!

I have a couple Landscape images from my recent Pyrenees motorcycle trip that I think have a chance, but I really like this Bridge shot the most. It's nice to see some of my images in the Editor's Pick's, but I donít think being featured there has any bearing on what will place in the finals.

Is it that time again? I see some awesome photos so far. June was the first month I didn't submit any Jasper photos. My favorite last month was a DD entry. Fingers crossed that the judges liked it too :-)

John love that puppy photo. I saw it several times in EFP.

Chris that is a fantastic panorama. And little Miss Queen of Cyprus is adorable!

Kara great pov in Stand~Off.

Rob I love the textures in What's Behind Door #1?.

Les, as always, a fantastic landscape.

Leslie that is a great floral shot. Love the composition and coloring.

Nice entries everyone! I just found BP at the end of June, so only had 3 entries, and here's 2 of them.
My all-time favorite pic of my daughter (so far!)
and with a house full of dogs (5) of course I will have many entries in the Animal category. This is my Great Dane, Gamble, at the waterfalls near our mountain property. He's the only one that really enjoys the water, although it isn't deep enough for him to actually swim.

Hurray! It's C&C time again! I have really begun to look forward to this each month. I love seeing everyone's favorites! This time I had more trouble than ever deciding what to post. This is the first month I have had so many favorites. I am posting 3 (as usual) but I have 3 more favorites. Seems the ones I post here never make it, so maybe the other 3 will! This first one was featured in the DD newsletter #051, so I am really hoping for this one.

ok, ok so the damsel wasnt on the flower at all! yes I cut it out (which took ages by the way) and thought it would look nice on the flower! I hope it doesnt look to "just stuck on there" ? I have added a little shadow underneath him and taken the colour of the petals and added it to the wings on a low ocpacity.

hi everyone! there are so many good photos on this thread already!

here's my fav for june, although I never get it right.

it is my fav becasue it took so long to do....... cutting out a damselfly is rather tricky, and I hope it doesn't look too "stuck on" on the flower.

good luck everyone!

When I have some more time (and some more C&C!) tonight I will look at my entries last month and try to decide which one is my personal pride/favorite...see you all later and GOOD LUCK!

Oh boy, everyone! You've been busy, busy, busy! I was away this weekend at an art fair (things went pretty well), so I haven't had a chance to comment on all these wonderful photos. Soooo...I'll do some right now, then I'll do some later.

Chris--That panorama is so cool! I love how you've captured the storm rolling in. Furthermore, you've worked the light and color so well! And your portrait is just priceless! That expression you caught on her face tells such a story!

Kara--I know what you mean, it seems like we were just her because we WERE just here! LOL! I've liked this photo since the first time you posted it. The DOF work is just so...creamy. What a great job you did with it!

Doc--It's great to see you here! Unfortunately, your photo didn't make it through. If you're still having some problems with it, just let us know which one you like and we'll look for it in your gallery.

Rob--I like your thinking! And this is the door that can do it for you! I love those colors and textures, and, of course, I'm a sucker for a good door. Or window. Or wall. LOL!

Les--I've really been enjoying that whole series of landscapes. This one certainly stands out! The comp is great: letting the bridge anchor the bottom of the frame while giving us enough sunset in which to revel is fab!

Leslie--The feel and tone here are so evocative! That color palette is so lovely, and that comp and DOF really makes for a fine pic!

Susan--You know I like the Jasper photos, but this one is right up there as well! The composition really sells it, but the colors seal the deal! I love this one so much!

Diane--Welcome aboard! It's great to see your portraits, both the child and canine kind! The baby photo is adorable. I like the way you've frame the face with the towel, and your light is so nice here. The dog's profile is what really makes that photo, not to mention the fact that he (she?) looks so at home in nature. Very nicely done!

Leslie--I just love the fact that you were able to capture the same expression on both of their faces! How cool!

-----

I'll check in later this morning to catch up with the rest!

And I just wanted to say thank you all so much for making this thread a whole bunch of fun every month!

I'm back again for another round!

-----

Tamera--Both of these floral shots transcend their subject! These are lovely pieces that work equally well as both representative AND abstrct photography. Very nicely done!

Sylvia--The fun you had definitely shines through! What a great time it must have been working on this one. I really like the wide variety of expressions and emotions you were able to capture. A fine, fine job!

Margie--It's always a pleasure to see you here! I'm so excited to see some new photos from you, and this one is right up there! I really like the silhouette of the riders, particularly as they are set against that great sky. And, of course, your comp is fab here!

Wendy--I'd have to say that if these were in my gallery, I'd pick them as favorites! The colors and light are absolutely delicious, and the comp and detail really shine on both of them. Love 'em!

Carol--I see why you favor these! "Secret Garden" and "Mystical Garden" both have a great, dream-like quality that is easy to get lost in. "Resort Umbrellas" is a riot of color and texture that is so much fun. Great work all around!

Rachel--A Damsel indeed! I just love the light, color, and detail you've captured here. And that comp is perfect for the long body of the dragon fly and the roundness of the flower. Nicely done!

Les--You sure know how to entertain with style and panache!

Stephanie--Sorry about the uploading problems. Thanks for pointing us to your gallery. The b/w works so well for this image because it lets us focus on the eyes, the obvious stars of this photo. Very good work!

Sherry--I have to say that is probably the most patient model I've ever hear of! I can only image how many wonderful photos you made in 45 minutes--this being one of the great ones. I love the light and detail here, and I particularly like the way you caught his head cocked like that. It gives him a real sense of personality!

Datha--You're really in a zone with your portraits! Here again you prove how a simple and direct setting can provide one with a stand-out photo! Your ability to capture the right expression or moment shines through again with this one!

Michelle--It's nice to see you again! This is one mighty fine macro! Not only do all of those colors meld so well, but your detail--particularly on that leaf--is supurb! Great work!

Sherry--"Precious Pink" is certainly that: precious and pink! I've always loved magnolias and this representation of one is beautiful! "Farewell..." is really ratcheted up a notch by the intriguing use of effects! The comp is simple and direct, while those colors really pull us in. Nicely done! (And thanks for the recipe, too!)

Kai--I'm so glad to see you back! "Go!!" works so well with the frozen action and the way you caught the excitement and fun in their expressions. And "Boys of Summer" is right up there with your finest work. The comp is stellar, with the pitcher's face being framed by the bat and the helmet. Very top-notch work!

well I went to a lipizzaner stallion show not too long ago, and tried out some different things with my camera. Now i'm no expert but I was quite pleased with these two pictures! So they would have to be my favourite this month!

Cheri--A good evening to you, too! Glad to know a little luck rubbed off on you last month...here's to it happening again. Of course, with this photo, I don't think you NEED any luck--it has a classic, regal feel to it. The light and colors compliment each other perfectly! Nice job.

Hayley--Glad to see you back again this month! It's obvious your experimentation really paid off: you SHOULD be proud of these two. The patterns/repeating themes in "Optical Illusion" are really cool. And "In Sync" is just lovely! The combination of fluid motion, light, and color all meld to make a fabulous piece!

Katarina--I just love all three of these. "Spinning" is a great take on an umbrella photo with just enough suggested action to really make it interesting. "A Star..." is an example of a bold composition that creates a compelling photo. And "Laundry Day" is one of my favorites of yours! That comp, those colors, and that light really raise an everyday scene to the level of a beautiful photo!

Not to go off-subject or anything, but BP is putting medals under "Editor's Picks" now.

24 of my last 40 entries have been picked, now I know which ones to take a second look at to try to get that elusive "Finalist".

Absolutely made my day!

I knew if I switched, something good would happen. Forget the chicken bone.

I agree with Kai about the editor's picks. It is nice to see what got a look, even though not as far as a finalist though. It made my day, too!

Yeah I definitley have to say that I quite like knowing what they are looking at and what they aren't. I'm happy with my photos no matter what, but knowing that a professional is also enjoying them gives you that extra fuzzy feeling inside!

I think the EFP buttons are great, too. I have a theory about the Editor's First Picks. In order to win (gold or silver), your photo must have been an EFP, *but* getting an EFP is not a guarantee of winning.

Just an idea. Would be interesting to test this over time ... ;)

I had a whole long response typed out, on my feelings about EFP in general, but then I didn't want to be a total downer, driving people to drink (even though it is cocktails & chocolate!) so I'll just say I'm not really a huge fan of the new EFP medals.

Michelle--This is a fantastic POV and a great idea for a SP. The effects, too, work very well. Nicely done!

Colleen--I really like the comp and colors here. The grain gives it a very classic feel. But it's the lighting that really puts it over the top for me!

Kai--I like the idea of changing the chat around! Forget that stupid chicken bone indeed!

Kai, Sherry, Hayley, Colleen, and Chris--As for the EFP medals, I'll be very interested to see how it all plays out once the finalists/winners are announced. I'd like to see if an EFP is a prerequisite for a finalist or if it's just something separate but nice. One thing I'm kind of amazed by is the fact that I've had EFP medals going all the way through my gallery--in other words, I've received EFPs for photos that were submitted over a year ago! That means editors have looked all the way through my gallery.

Well I already posted I don't like them in the other thread so I won't say more here. I guess my Parasol photo won't be getting finalist since it didn't even get editors pick ;-)

But it is still one of my favorites from last month, finalist or not :-)

Good luck everyone, we probably still have about a week to wait.

Well isn't that an interesting wrinkle?! Since EFP didn't exist until pretty recently...
I see the same thing, having gone through my whole gallery now. (Which by the way, I hadn't done in a long time; I've got a little pruning to do in there!!)
I'm still not convinced there is a contest connection (ie, such as EFP's represent the hidden "Runner's Up" pool we could surreptitiously observe during judging rounds, last year.) But it does make you wonder why "old" photos have the badges... I'd have to go back through my records and see if any of my "old" photos, with EFP on them now, were resubmits in the past few months since the EFP feature went live...

Pass me a drink just in case I over step a line and get myself yelled at, but...Susan, after going through several galleries of BP members I have noticed that A LOT of the finalists and winners didn't have any Editor's Picks medals at all. And, coming from someone who has NEVER had a finalist and winner since I've been a member, I can honestly say that I don't think there is a connection between EP and Finalists. Trust me. My gallery is half lit in gold and nothing yet for me. I wouldn't get downhearted about anything. The work I have seen on this forum alone is amazing and I worthy of any kind of recognition. I'm a school teacher, not a professional photographer, so I don't have much room to talk on any photo matter, but I do want to end by saying that whether or not a picture gets picked or not, EP or Finalist, if it's amazing to you, still captures your attention and makes you proud for taking it, then shouldn't that be all that truly matters?

Wendy, I'm not sure, but I suspect that if a photo was chosen as EFP (or whatever counted as EFP, in the past, before EFP was a visible feature) but later went on to make Finalist or 2nd/1st in the contest---then only the contest medal would appear today, not both medals. A contest win of any kind, immediately trumps EFP, in my book.

There was a month sometime last year, when we could "see" the Runners Up pool being formed each month during judging rounds (some folks have suggested the EFP represents the Runners Up pool)... I went through my entries for that particular month last year, and marked every single photo that was included in the Runners Up pool at that time... I'll have to see if all those that I marked back then, now have "EFP" on them---I don't think that they do, which could suggest that Runners Up pool is NOT really what EFP represents.

I could be wrong, but I still stay EFP is runners up. How do I know that, because photos in my gallery that have been hidden for months have an EFP button.

So how can photos that have not been seen for months get a button? Because they were entered in the contest at one time and made runner up.

When the links were visable I marked all my photos that made runners up since I first started enterting the contest. And all those photos have the EFP button.

And photos that are winners/finalist will not have EFP button because once they won the EFP button were replaced with a finalist/win button.

So to me, EFP = Runners up, which is the first round of judging.

Just to be clear, I didn't say there shouldn't be an EFP recognition. Just that it shouldn't take away from the finalist/win buttons.

Susan, it does seem like the most likely explanation for EFP... If you've already confirmed your known "Runner's Up" in the past, all have EFP, that probably is as good a proof as any...

(And I also agree with you---I'd rather not see the EFP buttons in my gallery... Keep the EFP to the current "browsing" feature off the menu.)

I would rather not see an EFP button until the end. Because I do believe that the EFP's are the first round of picks..winning is not everything but it is even more depressing to find early on that an image is not even in the running!! lol

Stephanie, my fave for this month doesn't have an EFP button, either, but I don't know if it ever appeared on the EFP page.

And just to clarify--I posted this in another thread--while I really like the idea of an EFP button of some sort, I'd much prefer it to be like a small star, and a different color. I'm guessing they'll change it in the future.

Oh, and I got an EFP button on a photo I uploaded 3 or 4 years ago! It's hard to believe the judges just recently went through all the galleries to pick them out ... that must mean all these photos were saved in a runner-up pool at one point.

Revonda... I agree with your concept of knowing the judging results early on... When I first heard of the "secret" addresses to watch the juding "elimination rounds" last year, I was instantly addicted to watching it, watching my photos progress (or not progress) in the rankings.
Very quickly, I realized it really added a huge amount of anxiety to my life, and almost sapped my interest in the contest and BP. I gave up watching the pools after 3 months. I much prefer to get the surprise on "announcement day" with everyone else. If EFP really is the "Runner's Up" elimination pool (and I'll concede that it probably is) then fine---just keep it as a browsing option on the BP Menu like it was... I see no need for medals if your photos, out of 26,000 in a month, made it into the first cut of 14,000 selected to advance.

Now, the question I have (to be only slightly sarcastic, because I firmly believe this will happen) is:
How long will it take for someone on BP to start a Forum thread, asking "Why Wasn't My Photo Picked for EFP?"

I have not really looked into my gallery for a while and was amazed to find many EFPs, it makes me feel great to have gotten a look by the editors even if they did not or do not make the finalists round (only one has made it into the finalist round).

So many great images as always. And lots of EFP's!!!!

I am just going to post 1 image this time. My husband doesn't generally cooperate with the camera, but I mananged to get this one and of course it is one of my favorites even if it doesn't get past just an EFP. Plus, my first attempt at B&W...

Good luck everyone!!!

Diane Davis   I posted on the other thread that I liked the idea of EFP recognition, but not the gold medal look.
I'm new here and didn't know about the runners up pool, so I thought the EFP was just a random selection of photos that caught an editor's attention for some reason...they aren't always the cream of the crop, IMHO, so my thought was that they aren't the only ones being considered. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
Interestingly, out of my 4 entries, 2 got EFP's, but guess which ones I posted here as my fav's...the 2 that didn't get picked!

I like the idea of the efp's. At least I know my images are being looked at. For too long, it was a bummer not knowing what, if any, images were being moved along.
One of the downfalls I have is shooting at high ISOs, I'm a journalist so grain/noise isn't much of a concern to me. (newsprint is a low res medium) Obviously noise is an issue to the judges and to "art" shooters. Now I've got an idea of which images to run through NeatImage and resub. I started with my basketball tipoff shot.
For those of you who have won medals the efps might not mean anything, but for me it does. After three and a half years of submitting, I've got a little something to show for my efforts.

I didn't know whether John was hinting that this was not the place for EFP discussions when he said he head was spinning, so if that is the case, please forgive me for posting. However, I wanted to address the posts of some of the people on here, and I didn't know if they would see it somewhere else. First off, I would be fine with a star instead of a medal. But what I wanted to comment on was the idea about what it means if you do or don't have an EFP badge. I do believe the EFPs are somewhat tied to runner-ups because when I viewed the runner-ups like Christopher and Susan mentioned, I had several images that were there and now have an EFP badge. However, I really believe that just because you don't have one doesn't mean your photo is definitely out of the contest. More runner-ups could be pulled into the pile before they move on to the semi-semi finalists. I really believe they will look at the ones w/o badges again because they could be missed by whomever picks the EFPs when they are first posted. Those runner-ups not picked at the start may still get a finalist or maybe they will add an EFP badge to them when they are not chosen to move on. I really don't think the judges would want us to know so early in the judging that a particular photo was definitely out of the running because it doesn't have an EFP badge. I still have hopes for my Secret Garden photo because it had to be noticed to be in the DD newsletter, but it doesn't have an EFP badge. So I wouldn't be so quick to think no badge means no chance, because that would be easy to track after a few contests and then everyone would know that their images w/o EFP badges had no chance. If they didn't want us viewing the runner-ups like we were able to do for a few months until they fixed it where we couldn't, then why would they want us to know all this ahead of time? And another thought, what if your photo is so good that it is voted on to the semi-semi finalists earlier in the contest so they just hold off about putting on a EFP badge because it might make a finalist? I am not going to worry about mine w/o an EFP badge unless I see a pattern after quite a few contests.

I was thinking the same thing Carol. I have been looking through the galleries of some of my favorite BP'ers and noticed that some of the photos that I thought were really stunning and likely finalists/winners had no EP badge. So maybe they have already moved on to the next level of judging. Who knows, right? I guess we will have to be patient and see how this works out over the next couple of months. Well, with all this EP stuff going on I think we're all gonna need and extra dose of cocktails and chocolates! LOL.

Oh Wendy! I absolutely love cheesecake but it is so expensive to buy! If you don't mind posting it or even just sending it to me through the contact button, I would love to give it a try! I might not get to right away because it usually calls for a springform pan which I don't have right now, but I would like to get one and try it. I have never baked one before so it would be fun to attempt it!

Sure. I'll shoot it to you via email tonight once I get my little one to sleep and can get to my recipe box. :) But, yes, it does require a 9" springform pan. But, once you get one, if you are anything like me, you won't be able to part with it.

No, I wasn't hinting at all. It's just that the responses had been coming so fast and furiously that it was hard to keep up! I love seeing everyone's favorites each month, but I also love the dialog that goes on here. The EFP discussion is spirited and interesting, and I know there are varies opinions on both sides of the question.

As for cocktail recipes, here are two of my favorites:

The Perfect Martini
-Chill a proper Martini glass in the freezer
-Fill a cocktail shaker with plenty of ice (if you don't have a cool shaker, ask Chris, he may let you borrow one of his vintage ones)
-Fill with an appropriate amount of gin (preferably Bombay Sapphire, but any fine gin will suffice; vodka, though acceptable for some, does not find it's way into a "perfect" Martini)
-Shake vigorously for several seconds, set aside
-Skewer three large, blue cheese stuffed olives (use appropriate skewers; toothpicks will not do)
-Remove glass from freezer and pour chilled gin into said glass until it reaches just below the rim
-In a separate room (or, in lieu of a separate room, at least 10 feet away from your drink) open a bottle of dry vermouth and, with the bottle held firmly in your hands to avoid spillage, run past your glass for no more than 1 second
-Lovingly place the olives into the martini, taking care not to spill
-Stir drink with olives 5 times counter-clockwise (this is an affectation, but I honestly believe it improves the quality of your experience); again, take care not to slosh
-Enjoy
-Repeat as needed

The Scotch
-Obtain a bottle of the finest single malt you can (my personal preference is Lagavulin, your tastes may vary)
-Pour scotch in a snifter
-Optionally a THIMBLE full of pure Scottish spring water can be added to unlock further complexities
-Swirl to appreciate the color and legs, and to release the nose
-Enjoy leisurely
-Repeat as needed

---------

I hope these help!

--John

I am disappointed that John's thread turned into a discussion on the EFP.
I thought this was suppose to be a FUN thread for everyone to enjoy the beautiful photo's.
Everyone is getting side tracked to WHY are YOU here on BP, for everybody else, the judges or YOU!
It is easy to get caught up in the cycle every month but the thing we need to ask ourselve's is WHY am I here and doing BP?
The point we ALL HAVE to remember and ask ourselve's are we doing this for the win's or for YOURSELVE'S?
I think that you should be doing this for you, not for anyone else.
Keep doing what you enjoy doing and do not get so caught up in the EFP or win's.
EVERYONE is a winner in my eye's for just doing what they are proud of and the gift each of you has to offer.
Isn't that what REALLY count's is to have fun at what your doing.
Please YOURSELF people, no one else!
After all it is ONLY a few people's judgemnt who pick these photo's.
Win's are nice, but your OWN self gratification is what should really count in the beginning and the end.

NOW, I will re-try and unload my images and HOPE that you will enjoy them as much as I do, win or no win.
Please if you wish to comment on a photo, use the link under the photo. Thank you all and have a GREAT night.

LMAO, John! I LOVE your martini recipe! Especially this step...
-In a separate room (or, in lieu of a separate room, at least 10 feet away from your drink) open a bottle of dry vermouth and, with the bottle held firmly in your hands to avoid spillage, run past your glass for no more than 1 second.

Too funny!

John, that's an outstanding martini recipe--I'm also laughing at the vermouth step. (Chris, can I borrow a vintage shaker, please?) I'm going to have to buy that scotch for my husband; I buy him a new single malt for every special occasion but he hasn't tried that one yet.

As for whether we should discuss the EFPs here, I don't see why not. I think it's fun to speculate on what they're all about, and since they're chosen from contest entries, it seems appropriate to include the topic here--just as long as it doesn't get in the way of dessert and drink recipes! :)

As someone who hasn't acquired the taste for scotch, having tried bravely more than twice, I can't speak to John's guidance on it (though I have no doubt he speaks from a point of deep, personal, probably enviable wisdom.)
However, I must protest this slighting of vodka.
I can't stomach gin. So I'm left with the wonderful vodka martini instead. Perhaps out of nostalgia, I often make my martinis with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire opened nearby---a half-empty bottle left in my freezer as a souvenir from my non-single days of yore. It reminds me of Winston Churchill, with whom I associate the proper martini, particularly the Dirty Martini. (see below.) I do love the juniper scent, and the blue bottle itself (though I was so disillusioned with the world, to learn as a teen, the gin itself wasn't blue.) But actually consuming a mouthful of gin brings me to the very verge of unswallowing, to borrow a polite phrase.

Aside from John's dismissal of the vodka martini, I would suggest his recipe is spot on, and otherwise perfectly interchangeable with vodka. Though I do recommend the Dirty Martini---Into the cocktail shaker full of ice and vodka, you pour a rather generous splash of olive brine, preferrably from a jar of Musco Family "Green Pearl" Spanish Queen olives. I also tend to use 4 of the said large olives in my martinis---I figure that doubles as my salad course, when enjoying a martini on an otherwise empty stomach.

For my truly perfect martini, follow all of what I've described and appended to John's list, but, shake in a 3-piece, all-glass-construction, vintage Heisey cocktail shaker, pour into a spotlessly clean, generously sized martini glass with minimal surface decorations, and skewer the olives with a glass skewer. Let no metal come into contact with the pristine beverage.

And I'll leave you to contemplate your next drink with my all-time favorite (and suggestive) martini quote, attributed to Dorothy Parker:

I love a good martini,
Two at the very most.
Three, and I'm under the table;
Four, and I'm under my host.

I believe that most people (here at least) already do that, but I am sure that a few on BP are just really into the winning. I love to see that finalist, but I still enjoy what I do, and I won't stop even if I never get another finalist. I don't mind the EFP discussion being here, but I am fairly new to the thread so I didn't want to offend my kind and gracious host by making his head spin even more (than the drinks) if he really meant for this to only be about favorites, hoping, drinking and eating chocolate! But John, I read your post that it wasn't a hint, so I am glad it was ok. And Stephanie, I noticed some photos of other members that did not have the EFP badge either, and I think they could very well be finalists or winners, which would mean that not having an EFP badge doesn't mean you don't have a chance. I am hoping they have a chance because next month one of my favorites is one of my son's portraits, and it doesn't have an EFP. And Wendy, thanks again for the yummy recipe. If I happen to cook it up before the finalists are out, I will bring some to share! And John, I don't drink martinis so I did not read your recipe until I read the posts of others laughing about it. Too funny about running by the glass with the dry vermouth and stirring counter-clockwise!!

"I am disappointed that John's thread turned into a discussion on the EFP."

This thread has been a free for all from it's inception. I began hosting it in November 2005 until turning it over to John and even back then everyone just had fun discussing whatever they felt like tossing out there. I don't see how the topic of the EFP is any more off topic than mixed drinks and chocolate. BTW, my original threads were called, Counting Down. You can guess how the name got changed. It's always been fun and I don't ever recall anyone getting upset over a little detour in the discussion. Just go with the flow and have fun!

Carol, glad to hear you received it. Hope you have plenty of success with it. I came up with this recipe and one for a banana butter rum cheesecake one Thanksgiving when I was desperate for something different. Enjoy!!

Yay! Chocolate and Cocktails time! I've been so busy this month, I hardly noticed it was past that time! LOL :O)Everyone's pictures are terrific. Of course, I have several favs, but I will just post 2. I have a bottle of merlot a friend gave me for my birthday that I think I might save for those last few pesky hours of the wait! Good luck to all and thanks again to John for playing the awesome host that he is!

I turn my back for just a moment and ZOOM the thread is jumping! And I'm glad my recipe is popular! Thanks, Chris, for invoking Dorothy Parker! That has always been one of my favorites of hers!

And now, the pix:

Nancy--First off, as we've said so often in threads past, at the end of the day WE are the ones that have to like OUR own photos. You've hit that right on the mark. "Porcelain..." has a very nice arrangement in the flowers, and the effects bring out the luminescent quality of the blooms. The colors and detail in "Painting..." really jump! At first I thought it was really three vases! "Kayden's 3 Month Smile" is a very sweet picture of this adorable baby! "Sky Full of Glory" is aptly named. The colors of the sunset are just lovely. And "Precious, Cute and Way to Adorable at 4 Weeks" is, indeed, precious, cute, and adorable! You captured some great expressions on their faces!

Sharon--Another fantastic flower shot from you! The comp is great in this one, as is the color. your manipulation of the DOF works very well, too! And I just wanted to jump in again and thank you for originally getting this whole ball of wax rolling down the hill! You're the tops!

Bobbie--I'm so pleased you found the thread! I like the framing/comp choice you made here. Putting it at an angle like that really gives us an opportunity to see it, literally, from a different perspective! Nicely done!

Les--Europe looks like a lot of fun! LOL

Michelle--Thank YOU for jumping in! I always look forward to seeing your offerings every month. "My Three Cows" is just fantastic! I love the comp with the internal framing with the door. The light, too, is great! For a first wedding shot, "The Kiss" is a terrific way to start! The composition is really compelling here. I like that, even though they are small in terms the amount of space they take up in the frame, they still stand out strong and bold and are the focal point.

Diane Davis   Well, I'll have to join Wendy and Carol's cheesecake discussion, as I have a newborn that probably wouldn't appreciate scotch-spiked milk!
I make a killer cheesecake, though, and hubby's been asking me to do a chocolate-chip one, so maybe I'll do that next. Carol, don't worry about a springform pan-they always leak even if you line it with foil, and there's nothing worse than a soggy cheesecake crust. Just get a 3 1/2" deep cake pan (I could only find them online) and you can work the cheesecake out easily, and the crust will be...crusty!
Now there's an idea for the July monthly theme...........
Diane

I've never had a problem with my springform leaking since I started freezing the crust and firming it up before I add the batter. But, I have to ask, do you add a liner to the pan you use to keep the crust from crumbling when you lift it out?

John, you are an AWESOME host for this thread. I am so happy you are doing it now. I used to just start it and let everyone join in and after the first couple of people posted their favorite I kinda dropped the ball. You always respond to each person. No one could do this better than you!

It is Poppy Popping, I had 4 versions of this before I was finally happpy with the outcome. I had some great help from the great folks here at BP with this one as well.

I humbly confess... In addition to collecting vintage cocktail shakers, and studio art glass, I may just make the world's finest cheesecake... I am the triple threat!! Hahahaha!

But, I did want to chime in on springforms... I have a few round ones, and 1 square one; just tried that out last week for the first time.
The graham cracker crust I make covers the bottom of the pan, and goes up the walls about an inch or two. It does get baked by itself for a short while, before the batter goes into it---but there is nowhere for the batter to leak out of the crust, and therefore, out of the pan. (Perhaps this is a problem on cheesecakes that forego the sidewall crust?) The square springform's base actually has an outer lip, that if batter (say for brownies?) did leak through the joint, it would be retained in the trough formed by the extended lip.
I leave the finished cake in the pan for chilling/carrying, and I just remove the pan's sidewall to slice and serve directly off the pan's bottom piece.

Bring on the C & C Thread Bakeoff!! ;)

Diane Davis   OOh, sounds like there's a few secret cheesecake lovers out there!
Chris, the problem with the springforms isn't the batter leaking out, it's the water leaking in...as Alton Brown would say, a proper cheesecake is always baked in a water bath to ensure slow, even cooking throughout.
Wendy, to remove it from a cake pan, just use a sharp knife to separate the cheesecake from the parchment paper that you lined the pan with, then set the pan in a little hot water for a few seconds, and slide the parchment out. Then place parchment or plastic wrap on the top, set a springform pan base on top, then flip over and pull the cake pan off, then flip back over. Perfect cheesecake every time, that is, if you dont get out of control and drop it on the floor resulting in a canine feeding frenzy...

Ah, that is where we differ... I only do a water bath when making my caramel flan... my cheesecake recipe does not use a water bath (nor need one, apparently, since it never cracks, and always comes out smooth as velvet) while baking.
Yes, soggy crust (now I can see where that would happen!) would be kinda disgusting!!
And I gotta say, I'm not liking the sound of the extra work, for parchment lining! Just use the springform bottom, I say... :)

Mmmmmm cheesecake! You're all making me hungry!

Michael--"Sunrise Pier" is gorgeous! I love the soft reflection, and that combination of colors, along with that light, is pefect! Very nicely done.

Sharon--You're making me blush again!

David--"Poppy Popping" is a PERFECT title for this one. What's even better is that it's a terrific photo! The colors and detail make it seem like that poppy is right here in the room wiht me. A great macro shot to be sure.

Chris--I have to believe there is little you can't do! LOL Cheesecake, flan, photos, coctails, cathedrals...you've got it all!

Mary--Sorry about all the uploading problems. I'm glad you finally got it to stick! I really like how there are so many different, but interconnected, layers going on here. You've got a sky strata, a rock strata, and a cactus strata. They all have the right amount of space dedicated to them for their strength in the photo. A great composition!

I am going to be going to a location near here to look at a horse with my sister next weekend and hope to come up with some nice pictures like this one....if we don't melt first ;) I asked her why we can't look at horses in winter....she says they cost more then! So off we go in July.

Good luck with this one.

Mary--You snuck a few more in there while I was responding to the others! "Sunrise" is a lovely photo. I really like the comp, and the placement of the balloon is great! "Sedona Sunrise..." really conveys a sense of grandure and expance. It a beautiful vista indeed! "Las Vegas..." is a cool photo because it really expresses the sense that Vegas is a fabricated place out in the middle of nature! Great work!

Ryan--Glad to see you here! "Coming Home" is a beautiful photo! The soft colors and muted light give a very nostalgic and, as the title suggests, home-y feel to the scene. Very nice work!

Diane Davis   Have you seen the August monthly theme...Pictures of Other People Taking Pictures?
I haven't been here long, but I think that's a pretty specific theme and out of character compared to previous months. I think the editors are going to get bored looking at a bunch of heads obscured by cameras. I was looking forward to creating images for the new month, but this theme doesn't really inspire me.
Any opinions, or is it just me? :)

I rarely get into the monthly themes anyway. But, since they have announced the August theme, that generally means the announcements for Finalists should be posted within the next few days as well.

Chris, I've got to ask if you don't mind, how do you keep cheesecake from cracking? I've tried with and without waterbaths and I still have had a few come out looking like they have the Grand Canyon going through the center. Thank goodness cracks don't alter taste. :)

Also, when did BP change our Member Centers?

Diane--Like Wendy, I rarely shoot for the monthly theme. Truth be told, I often forget what it is! (For example, I can't recall July's theme. I'll have to look it up.) I find that once I get cracking, I usually end up with so much that interests me in and of itself that by the time I even get around to thinking about the monthly theme, I'm already jam packed with photos I want to post. Sometimes, the planets align, and I just happen to have made a photo that fits in with the theme.

The Member Center must have changed today; it certainly didn't look like this, earlier this morning!! I think I'm gonna like the "Favorites" feature... gotta go explore in depth...

As for the cheesecake cracking... I dunno what does it---my secret recipe calls for a brief baking time at a higher temp, then settles into a longer baking, at a much lower temp---I think that must help.
I've already said too much! ;)
(And yes, never throw good cheesecake at anyone... such a waste!)

Boy is my mouth watering now...first looking at all your amazing (as usual) photos posted here, and then reading about all the cocktails....chocolates...and now cheesecake!
I surrender! I'm afraid I'll eat so much you'll be able to use me as a very solid tripod for those delicate macro shots!
Good luck everyone, and "enjoy" the wait for the announcements!
(And here's "food" for thought... now that we've added "Cheesecake" to the "Chocolates" and "Cocktails", you'll all have to think of another "C" to tempt our "Cravings" for next month!)

Regards - Brian

Wendy, thanks for mentioning the new member center!! I just went to take a peek and I am excited! Looks like the favorites will be so awesome!!

And Susan, it would be great if your prediction is correct! Monday is just around the corner! However, I see so many times that it is the 24th, so I was thinking Tuesday. And if they linger like last time, I was thinking they could be announced on my b'day on Wed. And then, there is Thursday, the 26th which is the date they announced them on last month. It is always fun to try and guess when it will be!

And all this talk about cheesecake makes me really want to give it a try, but it is beginning to sound even more difficult than I have always expected! But, since my family and I love it so, and it wouldn't be for company, the cracks wouldn't bother us and I am sure we would eat it so fast we'd barely notice. And the cracks don't even show when you cover the cheesecake with Hershey's syrup or cherries or any of the other great things you can top it with! :D

Hi all! I am fairly new to BP and I am having a great time looking at all of the wonderful photos that are posted here. I belive that Photograph's are like wine and coffee! Everyone has different tastes in what we see and taste and I think that it is a wonderful thing, other wise how boring would life be. Even the judges that look at our photos have their own likes and dislikes. I don't think that any photo posted here is bad, some I just like more than others. and speaking of wine I am of to have a glass of one of my favorite Oregon wines from the Ken Wright Winery, Yummy!

This is one of my favortie photos that I took at the Oregon Zoo. They had just thrown a frozen popcicle with fish and fruit in it for the bears, and they where so active it was one of the best times I have had taking photos.

I'm still on vacation in sunny California--taking lots of photos with my wonderfully patient husband and, now, son in tow--and really don't have the time to check in to everyone's favorite for a few days. My saved file of all my June entries is at home but this was certainly one and I know it was entered in June so I'll share it with you. Great entries so far and lively discussions, too. Hi to all--I'll be back in a week.
Nikki

Busy, busy, busy...you've all been so busy!

Mary--I like the juxtaposition between this one and the one during the day. A very nice job!

Susan--No need to duck and hide! Stand proud and write boldly!

Amy--"Golden Swirl" has such gorgeous colors, and the composition is very compelling! "Sailing..." has a great feel to it. The monochromatic palette works very nicely, and the tall ship in the background is placed very well. And "Untitled" is a great use of the filter. A very nice collection this month!

Carol--Here's hoping your birthday brings silver gifts for all of us!

Kerby--Every photo of Keshia is fantastic, and these are no exception. The portrait of her with the puppy exudes joy and youthful exuberance, while "Keshia and her Shoes" is a lovely example of her natural photogenic qualities! Very well done!

Grant--Glad the pic made it to the thread because it's a fantastic moment! Not only is the comp perfect, but the light and detail are out of this world!

Nikki--I've always liked this one and I'm glad it's in this month's thread! It's a magic moment, full of great light, great composition, and great stories!

Michelle--"Up with Daisies" shows a confidence that is an perfect example of your skill. The composition works perfectly and your handling of the light is just great!

Kai--I'm chanting right along with you! Here's hoping the ham bone trumps the chicken bone!

  PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

But I have to bring up the Editors Pick buttons one more time. Two of mine have mysteriousy disappeared this morning, do you think this means they may have been moved on to the next level?

Now wouldn't THAT be something---an EFP button, on a JUNE entry, and the EFP disappears close to announcement time... could that in fact be an "unintended" means of showing that you advanced beyond the "Runners Up" stage? Interesting... I sort of don't think so---the EFP's I have on my Nov 2006 Runners Up, all show EFP today, even for the 4 that went to the next level, but didn't get Finalist... Time will tell, however, right?
Good luck!

Good luck everyone, we are all winners.

Kerby's comment made me think about something newer members may not realize...
In your Free (or Premium Gallery) you're limited to 30 (or 300) photos that can be on display at any one time---but you're not limited to how many you can upload to BP (and thus see in your Member Center.)
So there may be little reason to delete a photo from BP entirely, unless you truly didn't like it, or used it for illustration purposes in a long-ago thread, and no longer need it, etc. You can simply deactivate a photo from being visible in your gallery, but leave it in your Member Center should you ever want to display it again... if you are concerned about deleting images that you may later you wish you hadn't!

Kerby, I definitely believe that some photos that do not have EFP badges are still in the running for a finalist. I just don't believe that BP is making it so easy for us to know whether our photos have a chance or not. I think that some of the EFPs are runner-ups and may go on, but I believe that some that do not have EFPs have made it farther or maybe they were overlooked when they were posted and may later get a EFP badge, or a finalist.

  Hi Chris,

I deleted all the images I had up that did not have buttons.

I had images up from one to three years ago that I never use again. Plus some of them were double that I may have done little improvement on. You really do not need two of the same image saved.

As time goes by you improve on how you take images and it was a good way to clean up my gallery.

Good morning everyone! Morning Europe time and no announcements yet...

Leslie et al: I made the same observation a few days ago that one of my pictures from June had lost itīs EFP button. If I remember correctly my "Spinning" (see above) had an EFP before but no it does not sooo...either a bug in the system or it means something else. I guess we will know in a few hours...

Strong and large cup of coffee please!

The beauty of facing a job layoff in 87 days, when the workflow has already trickled to a standstill, is that I can dream up new information on Finalists to gather and share!

As mentioned earlier, Tuesdays have historically been the most popular day of the week (in the past 19 consecutive months) to release Finalists announcements... (Not to mention, the 24th of the month is in a 3-way tie, as most popular date to announce.)
More than you want to know:

4 of the 6 Monthly Finalist Announcements came out on Tuesdays, after 2pm EST; two of those 4 came after 5pm EST.

The other 2 of the 6 Tuesday announcements came in the wee hours around 4am EST. (However, those two months 19 and 17 months ago!)

Not sure that this means anything... I think it means BP should read this thread, and deliberately throw my numbers for a loop, by announcing Finalists in the next 12 minutes. hehehe

The data is gathered from the timestamps on my incoming emails, so delays in my email service could skew the data. But, compiling this for your info-tainment, meant that I was able to pass another 10 minutes in my empty cubicle pod ;)

I don't want to dwell on EFP's, really, but I am very curious... does anyone have an EFP on a photo they 100% for sure NEVER entered into any past month's contest? ie, just a plain upload to add to your gallery, but which you've never submitted?

(And I confess...for all my statistics and record keeping, I never made a log when the EFP medals first appeared, of which ones had EFP---so I have no way of knowing if any have now disappeared!)

Chris, Do you want when they first started the EFP, or when the buttons came out. If my records are right they started the EFP on the 29th of March.
My first one was of my dog Barney which was uploaded on the 26th of March.
The button's came out on July 17th.
Hope this help's you.

GOOD LUCK to everyone one again.

Can I ask, earlier some were talking about bumping up our thead against another one, what is that about?

To bump up a thread just means to add a new comment to the end of the thread, so that in the Forum lists, that topic now appears near the top, with recent activity... the longer a thread goes with no new posts, the further down the list the thread falls, as newer topics, with newer posts, push it down.

Kai--Once again you have captured a great moment full of story! I just love the expression on his face--so full of concentration!

Carol--This is such a nice scene. There's just something about a mill wheel that just relaxes me whenever I look at one! I like the colors here, particularly the red of the building.

Melissa--It's great to see you back again! Your handling of light and color in this photo is just phenomenal! You've captured a very distinct feel and texture and communicated it perfectly!

Kerby, I say it isn't worth worrying about. As BP isn't going into any great detail about what EFP really is (or isn't) I say relax, relate & release---then just go with the flow for any EFP's that appear and disappear. Just remember your contest medals stay put, thankfully! ;)

Kai... announcements have come out at all hours of the day; West Coast still has 6 and a half hours to go, today, til midnight ;) Keep callin' down that ham bone!

Hi, guys. I'm finally back from vacation and thought I'd check in. There are so many great photos here--I'll try to get comments posted on as many as I can over the next few days: official BP finalists or not, there are many winners in my book.
As far as EFPs goes, I'm with Carol (and Chris and others, I think) when she says, "I definitely believe that some photos that do not have EFP badges are still in the running for a finalist. . . I think that some of the EFPs are runner-ups and may go on, but I believe that some that do not have EFPs have made it farther or maybe they were overlooked when they were posted and may later get a EFP badge, or a finalist." However, I go even further. I also think (and this has little to do with EFPs) that though BP does its best to look at every single contest entry, whether when considering them as EFPs or as contest entries (and I do think those are two different things), doing so is impossible. That's one of the reasons many re-submitted photos earn finalist or winner badges and one of the reasons some very deserving photos are "passed over" as EFPs. I actually believe BP when they say that EFP and the contest are separate. I believe that every attempt is made to look at every entry when judging the contest--but I think it's impossible to do so :) And I also believe that no attempt is made to look at every contest entry when selecting EFPs. Therefore, deleting photos that did not get EFPs *for that reason* is a mistake. Every month, after the finalists are announced, I try to go through my gallery and get rid of the photos I like least. I suppose that now, if a photo has an EFP badge, I will be less inclined to get rid of it even if I don't really like it personally. But the bottom line will still be, for me, whether *I* like the photo or not.

Congratulations all! We now know that the mysteriously disappearing EFPs have nothing to do with the finalist round. Neither of my disappearing buttons were replaced with a finalist :( But they were not my favorites anyway.

Looking forward to next month. I have learned lots this month and am pleased at the improvement I see in my photos!

Congrats to everyone on their finalists! I got 2...the other one was a favorite, too, that I thought about posting (but I didn't think it would make it). I am trying to work my way through them all and congratulate you personally! Those who did not make it this time, try again! I think all the favorites here are beautiful and very deserving! And if they are YOUR favorites, that means more than a finalist anyway! My Mystical Garden is still one of my most favorites (and I plan to enlarge and hang it) but it didn't get a nod (not even EFP!)

  Congrats to all finalist :-)

Can your picture get in the finals without beeing BPEP? Anyone knows that?

Congratulations to all finalists and good luck next!

I was lucky to get 2 this month; none of the ones I posted above and not the one where the EFP-button disappeared. My prognostic capabilities seem to be really bad. But I am very happy to have received 2; it was a rainy/chilly Saturday morning on a junk yard (yes you read correctly!) that paid off with "Scarred barrels" and "Scars and blisters" getting the Finalist buttons.

And Philip: I have no idea. As far as I remember it both my pictures had an EFP before they got "promoted". Sorry I cannot reveal the mystery.

Have a nice day everyone!

Katarina

See, if I had just stayed up another hour!! Tuesdays reign supreme now, in terms of Announcement Dates... ;)

As for me, I managed 3. But, I cannot shed any new light on the EFP debate---all 3 of mine were EFP.

HOWEVER, I can re-confirm, for anyone who has doubts---ALL 3 of mine were resubmits this month; previously entered into a past month's contest, with no luck. So, even though it has been said before, if you really, really believe in a particular photo, resubmit it!!

And Kai, I cannot tell you how happy I am to see you get a Finalist! Savor the moment of "the first time"!!! Congratulations, Kai, any everyone else; good luck in the next round!

Congrats to all you finalists--here's hoping your silver turns (back) to gold!

For the rest of us, it'll only be a few weeks until we start pouring cocktails again!

Congrats again.

Congratulations, all! Well, I had only submitted one shot last month, so I wasn't really expecting a finalist. And sure enough...I didn't. I'm very happy the shot got an EFP though! But, a BIG congrats to all those with finalists. Kai, I'm so happy you got your first finalist...well deserved!

Congratulations to all....with a SPECIAL CONGRATS going out to KAI...who finally got some long-awaited attention by the judges. I thought the 'ham bone' version sounded more strange than the 'chiken bone' but it worked! Go and CELEBRATE! Good luck to you ---and everyone else here-- who is moving on to the next round!

Wanted to stop in and say a BIG Congrat's to you that got a finalist and those if us that did not. We are ALL winners.
A best of good luck to you all in the next round.
Have a most wonderful day!!!

For those of you that had EFP emblems disappear, as I did too, I e-mailed them last night and asked why.....Here is their reply......

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. I have been investigating and found that it is a technical issue. Jay, who implemented the Editor's Picks, is away on vacation this week and will be able to work his magic on the disappearing emblems some time next week.

Thanks for sharing that Nancy, I was wondering about it.

Did anyone get a finalist for an image that they are sure was NOT an efp? I didn't.

Diane Davis   Nothing for me, but I wasn't expecting anything, as I just found BP and my 4 entries were the wrong size and I didn't work on them at all in PS. I did get 2 EFP's though, so that's ok for my first go-around!

Connie, good question, and I'd like to know as well....

Diane

Congratulations to everyone. Still no "first finalist" for me, but that's okay. I'll see everyone here in July, but due to work starting back up in 2 weeks and a couple of "unexpected issues" that have developed this week, the camera will probably have to get packed up and take a back burner for a little while. Congratulations to all once again.

How often do we miss what is right under our noses?
I was perusing the Travel and Place finalists and saw a photo of a barn. I've seen that barn a thousand times, yet never gave it a second thought. A visitor to my town saw it and turned it into a finalist.

  G'day everyone.

What a good thread. Thanks, John C.

I too congratulate not only the winners, but also the photographers who have contributed, but may not placed as a finalist. One of the key things I find crucial about photography in general is persistence. As much as in actually capturing or composing a shot in the first instance, or working on it like mad for hours in post processing, the same rule applies when submitting images to competition sites such as BP. I'm one of those that if given the opportunity, will snap 100 images of a subject until I get it 'right' No-one likes being 'knocked back' or rejection, and photography is such a subjective, personal form of expression that you're bound at some point to either ruffle a few feathers or simply not make the cut - this time. The theory is that BP (and all sites/competitions really) will recognise talent and excellence. So, gun for that when shooting and creating your images, get some feedback from family, friends, strangers, folks on here etc, but above all persist! Personally I have been a member of BP for about 2 years, but have really only contributed my images in the last 6 weeks, mostly due to the smaller size format that BP provides on screen - I generally process to output to a larger sized image for the web - and the fact that many of my images aren't as brilliant (colout/saturation wise) when I upload to BP (that again is something I should adjust in my digital workflow) and also my crt monitor going basically yellow and my resulting image colours being all over the shop (scuse pun) So having hone to an LCD panel, I've started again I guess. In any case, I've been lucky enough to receive 3 finalists for June, the first month that I've submitted in earnest to BP. I'm not only honoured to have received these, they may not go futher - who knows (I hope they do lol) but my images 'Water Colour', 'Tines Like These' and 'Polarised' were first submissions (and all EFP recipients), not resubmits, and some of my other images I would have thought may received consideration, weren't EFP'd or finalists. I'll resubmit these for sure.

So anyway, thanks to any of you who've already come by my images in whatever stage they were in to comment (and any who'd like to) and to the BP Judges who've thought my 3 images worthy to be at least finalists. And to the non finalists - don't give up!

  LOL! Thanks Sherry!

And thanks to all of you for participating in this thread. I really do love seeing everyone's work, and "chatting" with all of you.

Remember, too, to save your entries from THIS month (July) before Wednesday (because BP resets your "current entries" page at the start of every month) so that you have a list of your favs for next month's thread--which is, incidentally, just a few weeks away!

Every month, Lisa! Just look for it in the Forums, around the 15th, when John usually starts it... Look for "Chocolate & Cocktails - Countdown to July" (since we'll be waiting for the July winners, in mid-August.)

There sure will, Lisa! As Chris said, each month we all get together to brag, boast, and hope.

I usually start the thread on the 15th of each month, so look for it then. I can't wait to see your photo!

Hi Everyone, I am looking forward to John's upcoming thread in august.
Last month when I uploaded, I wanted to upload 5 pictures at a time. I noticed that only on the first image was I able to type in a photo ID#. On the rest of the photos, I had to upload from files. It is so much easier to upload by the photo ID#, that I ended up loading them one at a time. Can anyone explain to me if I am doing something wrong. Is there a way for me to upload them all at once with a photo ID#?
Thanks for any pointers. As you can see, I am already getting ready for John's thread in August.

Happy Shooting,
Mary

Nothing wrong, Mary... You only get 1 shot to use Photo ID# for uploads... the first image. After that, no more Photo ID# that day. It is a definitely annoying little glitch in BP's Forum design right now! I'd say scale back, and narrow it down to just your true Favorite single image, so you don't have to clutter up your Member Center with lots of duplicate images.
