Photography Question

USB Memory Stick

I'm looking to back up all of my pictures that are stored on my computer onto the USB memory sticks. I have a few thousand pictures now and was wondering what size memory stick I should use. If I have to use several that's fine, I'm just not sure what size will hold X amount of pictures. Anyone know?
Thanks!
alison

If you have some version of Windows, open My Computer or Windows Explorer. In the tool bar at top, select View, then check Status Bar. The Status Bar appears at the bottom of the window. When you then select the folder containing your photos the Status Bar will give the number of files (ex. "327 Objects") and their total memory size (ex. "419 MB"). This total is of the individual files in that folder. If you have subfolders you have to select each of them to get the number/size in each.

P.S. USB memory sticks are not a very cost effecient for mass storage. CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, etc. are much less expensive.
