Photography Question

Infrared photography

I have a Nikon D80 digital camera and I am trying to find out if one can use an infrared filter with a digital camera. Will the results be as good as using a film camera. Or is it better to use infrared film with a film camera. I read somewhere that digital cameras tend to eliminate infrared rays. Sorry, I am not sure if I am using the correct terminology here.

Thanks

Sarah-Jane

Hi Sarah-Jane. I have both the D70 and D80. I have used the D70 very successfully for IR. I use a Tiffan # 89 filter (I think that's the #), but most people use the Hoya R72. I tried to use the D80 the other day and the white balance preset is different from the D70, so I've got to figure that out. I would suggest Googling 'Nikon D80 Infrared Photography'. There was quite a bit of info on the D70, so there is probably alot on the D80 as well. You can use digital for IR work, it's just figuring out your specific camera. I honestly think it's easier, you don't have to mess with the extremely sensitive film.
