How to take night shots when on a walking tour I am going on a tour thru' Europe and the last time I went on a similar trip, taking photos at night was a disaster. Often the night tours are walking tours and there is not enough time to set up a tripod to ensure no camera shake. Could you please advise of an alternative way to get great photos of the sights thanks Lynn

You could try a chain pod. The simplest and best piece of photo equipment you can build is the chainpod. It works like a monopod, weighs a couple of ounces and fits in your pocket. To build it drill a small hole in 1/2 inch 1/4X20 (that is a thread size) thumbscrew. Attach about 6 feet of chain to the hole (more if you are really tall). Next put a nut onto the thumbscrew and position it so that the screw can’t go too deep into you tripod socket and glue the nut in place. To use attach the thumbscrew to the base of your camera drop the chain and step on it. Now pull up against the chain. Steady! You can see pictures of this in my Better Photo site. Thanks, John Siskin

This is a link to the thumbscrew assembly. http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.php?photoID=1865341&catID=&style=&rowNumber=182&memberID=158091. It requires drilling only one hole. Building it is easy! This next link would be myself using the chain pod: http://www.betterphoto.com/gallery/big.php?photoID=1865347&catID=&style=&rowNumber=181&memberID=158091 Thanks! John Siskin
