Digital P&S w/ Aperature/Shutter Priority

Hi all,

I would like to buy a compact digital point and shoot that has aperature/shutter priority mode. The camera doesn't have to be ultra slim but it shouldn't be so bulky that I might as well get a light DSLR. I prefer one with good lens and I'm not so worried about having lots of megapixels. Could someone recommend (and comment on) some cameras that fit the description? Just from searching the web, I found the following:

Canon Power Shot A-series
Casio Exilim Series

Right now, I use a Canon S410 and I'm pretty satisfied with the picture quality and the exposure. Sometimes I like to have more control of the exposure (ie. cotton candy effect for rivers). I can kinda do this by setting the ISO manually to 50 but that's not always enought.

Thanks for reading. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I would look into the Kodak EasyShare cameras for what you are looking for.

For Canon line, the PowerShot A710 IS may be the one you are looking for. I have used that one and it feels very comfortable to hold and have most of the functions you are looking for.

I was going to recommend the same thing- the Canon PowerShot A710 IS. I actually did a LOT of research very recently and this was the best choice overall- I bought my sister this camera for graduation, and she was looking for exactly the same things you described. I looked at a TON of cameras. It is actually very compact and has a great zoom range, in addition to having all of the manual settings a basic SLR would have. She loves it. I think it had around 7mp. It is easy to use and has a nice big LCD. Either way, I'd stick with a bigger brand (such as Canon or Nikon- those would be my first 2 choices). Some of the runners-up were the Canon S3 or S5 or the Kodak P-series. Each is a little bulkier, but the Canon had some additional features (a rotating LCD, more mp, I think a hot shoe) and the Kodak had a nice lens. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your replies. I will try to go to a store to handle these and see how they feel. I was looking also at the A570 IS. These two cameras seem pretty similar: A710 has 6x zoom (vs 4x), is faster at the long end (f4.8 vs f5.5), but has DiGiC II (vs DiGiC III). I'm not sure if there's any difference between the IS technologies...

Once again, thanks for the replies. More comments/suggestions are always welcome.
