Lenses for a Powershot S3 IS Digital Camera

I own a Powershot S3 IS Digital Camera, and I was thinking about getting some of the lenses that are compatible with this camera. I went into a 'Blacks' store and asked about their macro lense, I was told that the cost is approximately $500. I'm just wondering if ,First off, this the normal price range for this lense, and second off, is the lens even worth getting? So if anyone know anything about these specific lenses, that would be fantastic.

Using a similar camera (Fuji S5200) I can tell you that the only macro lenses you can use are add-ons. Did you tell him you use this camera, not an SLR? Good macro lenses for SLR cameras can defiantly cost $500. For my Fuji, I use HOYA diopter (magnifying-glass) add-ons. They are very inexpensive and fairly good quality, though you may notice some aberrations at high zooms and high diopters.

  Hey thanks for the reply.
The guy I talked to knew what camera I have....
So does the Powershot S3 IS Digital Camera not have lenses, just 'add-ons'? If you don't mind my asking, how much was your add-on for your camera? Just so I know approximately how much i'm gonig to be spending!
Can you also get other add-ons? Thank you very much for helping me out, i'm just a wee bit new at this whole photography thing!

The S3IS only uses add-on accessory lenses. To add accessory lenses to the S3IS, you need to get this adaptor for about $30. Then you can add this close-up macro lens for about $87 or this wide-angle lens for about $150, or this telephoto lens for about $100.

So, if someone at a camera store was trying to sell you a $500 macro lens for this camera, he either didn't know what he was talking about, or was trying to rip you off.

Good luck,

  I believe for a set of a +1, +2, and +4 diopter, multi-coated from HOYA, was less than $50.

Regardless what brand accessory lenses you get, you'll need the adaptor/lens shade first, because the S3IS doesn't have any filter threads without the adaptor.
