Photography Question

Save as problem in PSE

Whenever I try to save a RAW image as a tiff or psd, or .... in the PSE4 or PSE5 editor it takes about 10 minutes to save an image and sometimes locks up and I have to restart PSE editor. Also the hardisc is making a lot of noise during this process, like searching for something? If I save in a different software program I have no problem at all, only in PSE. I also tried to un - and re - install PSE already. Thank you for your help!

  Hi Thomas,
This could be attributed to your processor & amount of available RAM on your PC. I have a 3 gig processor and 2 gig RAM and it does still take a few seconds to save an uncompressed tiff from a raw file (at 48 MB) in Photoshop but it was even worse on my other computer that has less of each.
I am not sure about PSE but in Photoshop you can allocate your ram usage
(go to file>prefernces>memory&cache) and you should get a box that you can select a percentage of RAM to allocate. I set mine at 75% (1.5 gig).

Photoshop takes up a good amount of memory, and large TIFFs (how big are they?) or other uncompressed files can take a long time for the program to make from the RAW, especially if you have less than one gig of ram, if you are running other programs at the time, if you are running Windows that hasn't been (re)installed recently, or if your computer is slow from other reasons (like spyware and registry errors).

Thank you Carlton and thank you Ariel.
It turns out, that this issue is "simply" a user account corruption. I had to call HP, Adobe, Microsoft, and again HP. With Adobe I actually found that the software is running fine when I create a new user account in Windows XP, then the program runs like a charm.
Anyway, thank you again and I appreciate your response and trying to help.
