Speedlite mounted in umbrella

How effective does the Canon 430EX Speedlite work when mounted in an umbrella and triggered via Speedlite remote transmitter ? I shoot mainly baby photos and looking for a quick effective way for flash without wires, maybe get my assistant to hand hold the umbrella as light stands are a little risky around children. I dont want to set up strobes with cables and stands that can be knocked over.

That oughta work, Marius. (Although a 430EX via an umbrella obviously doesn't provide an impressive amount of light).

A (hand-held) reflector, however, – to convert the hard flash light into soft, diffused light – may get you similar results. But cheaper.
